Wingnut, I hope your back feels better.

I felt cruddy today but still took my brother to the foot doctor. They want to do a minor surgery on it in a month to see if they can clear some scar tissue that causes some recurring infection. He also has to get his A1C under control and they are worried about the healing. The doctor was nice but immediately upon walking through the front door I was hit with the smell of mold and mildew. No idea where the smell originated but it was musty in there.

Picked up mail and went to hang out with my friend for a little bit. The fluffy black kitten immediately ran to my brother. I brought over painting supplies and told my friend to let me know when he's ready for me to paint. He can move everything out of the way and set up the tarp for me so I can paint. Only has the living room paint for now-- they haven't picked a color for the hallway.

My truck parts delivery from rockauto is running late. Might have to call them to get them to push Fedex to deliver it the way I had to call HomeDepot to get them to make Fedex deliver. It said it was out on the truck for delivery but they never showed up. The drivers hate my road.

I just took my meds and have to wait an hour to eat so I'm watching the clock. Almost time.

Supposedly the meeting for the twins and the people that want them to stay with them is on for next Tuesday. Got a call from my favorite cousin yesterday, who had talked with another cousin who works with the lady who is taking them in. She is telling everyone at work that grandson is made to sleep in the barn, we scream at him all the time, and deny him food. Such a laugh.
Going to visit mom today, and just chores around here. Spring Break startd for little granddaughter next week, so she is excited.

I’m given to understand that daylilies are edible? But I haven’t tried them, and couldn’t vouch for the taste. Supposedly the tubers, shoots, and blooms are all edible.
Anything the goats don't eat most likely is either not edible or tastes bad. The problem with these things is they spread like crazy. Oh and the roundup btw seems to not have worked, they are not at all bothered by it. Wow . If this wasn't under trees, I would have husband plow it all up but you can't get to it

It's raining , cold and miserable out.
We worked like crazy yesterday on the last sunny nice day. Moved a ton of composted manure to the gardens and some on the pasture. Still have a huge pile left. I really wished we had a loader of some sort.
It is supposed to freeze and snow tonight, so everyone stays in the barn once again. It will be a big mess. Saturday we are taking some animals to the auction we have more than we need right now.

Round Up isn't strong enough, and it will take at least a week for it to work! I use brush killer for stuff like that!

Hopefully they get out soon!! I bet grandson isn't going to be able to smoke crap in the house there!😉😃

I'm off today... so when I got off last night we canned. It was 22:00 before the first batch was done, the wife was warn out and we left the kitchen a mess.
I got up this morning a cleaned the kitchen, washed jars so we can can this afternoon.
I have a range day tomorrow so I am trying to get in a little gunsmith work in between chores.
Need to get the laundry done before we start canning again.
I had work I wanted to do outside but the weather man says it going to be raining....

Snow and wind and drifting snow! Good day for some inside projects?

Curtido! Mexican style sauerkraut. Decided to give it a try. My Kim chi desire is costing $6/ week. I figure the homemade curtido will be less than $1?

1 head of cabbage
1 carrot
1/2 red bell pepper
1/2 green bell pepper.
1 small onion
1 dusting cayenne
1 dusting ginger
3T Himalayan or sea salt (no iodine)

This is my first attempt, so we'll see how it turns out. It packed two quart jars almost perfectly. I used the bigger outer cabbage leaves to hold the mix under the natural brine that formed after about twenty minutes. And topped with the rings and upside down coffee filters to let the gases escape.

After I see bubbles in four or five days I will spoon a drop on a ph strip to make sure it's 4 or less. Then stick it in the fridge and chow down?

Got up early , dogs were restless n making sleeping in hard.
Got everything fed n good for the day. Got some beans going, chicken dog food going n laundry.
Had to first dig out my front door then the chicken coop door. Heavy wet snow last night..about 5 inches of it. That's not a crazy amount but it is super wet, not Fluffly n easy to push.
Coworker called n said they are trying day shift today. If it goes well..I'm guessing night shift will be going in, so I'll be anticipating a call later.
Otherwise ..I'm going to check news n work on a rug.
Finished this one..

Back is feeling better, but weather forecast was off, I'm seeing clouds & wind... so no ride today. Not a problem, I can give my back more time to heal. Sure was stiff yesterday, but it's not so bad today, I'll just putter around and do some things I've been meaning to do indoors. No worries, a better day to ride will come along next week...

Curtido is delicious! Hope yours turns out well!

… I should do something with that chipotle kimchi I have in the fridge …

Wingnut, I'm glad your back is doing better. It is slightly cloudy out here, which is good because it isn't as hot. Just have to hold out for a couple more days now.

I have a small plastic drawer thingy on top of my nightstand. I keep some medicine and stuff in there and the cats like to sit on it. But they are heavier than it was designed for so it cracked. I tried to put some wooden craft sticks on the underside, but there is a bit of plastic in the way so I had to put it back a little farther to prevent it from cracking/slitting more. I will have to add reinforcement on top and tape the spot that split to reinforce it better.

Went through the list of places Trane sent me that fix/replace AC stuff. First place I called never contacted me again. Called ACR Heating & Cooling and got an answering machine. Almost hung up but left a message with my phone number. A few minutes later I got a callback and the guy was very nice. He had me read out the model numbers and I explained the inside unit was working fine but the outside unit's compressor died. I said I was hoping for a new outside unit to match the inside one. He explained why they need to be matched-- which lined up with what I read. Good news is they have a newer outside unit that is compatible and they can install it Monday. Bad news is its $5741 (including tax, delivery, installation). That is more than it cost for both units back in 2010. The compressor alone was $4k if it were to be replaced. But it comes with a 10 year warranty.

Have a laundry list of things to accomplish today. So far I've shuffled and organized in the pantry. Did you know my pantry has a floor. Think I read of it once in a history book but didn't believe it to be true 😂 Got it straightened up enough to vacuum the rug in there.
Next up, dehydrating eggs and getting some bags of rice and spuds into jars and sealed. The ironing will have to wait 😁

Great 2 days on the farm! Got a mason that can do our chimney and fireplaces the way we want that will include a pizza oven in the basement and a bread box oven upstairs. Met with electrician to get my rough in done just now and have the excavator guy coming tomorrow to plan out the remaining big digging projects for the place. Going to buy a Massey Ferguson sub compact tractor with loader and backhoe this afternoon. Massive progress if I get all this done.

Hi there my Homesteading friends! It's Jackie here. Yucky day here in Wisconsin...Wet, heavy snow last night and early this morning. Have to clean it all up now. Later I'll go over by Jim and visit with him for awhile. Then my two kids and I will go over by my parents house for our traditional Friday night fish fry. Ah yes...Life is good (despite the wet heavy snow).

Wow, it will come and bite them in the behind one day. This is such a crazy saga that it could be a book. Of course, the ending has not happened yet.

I've heard Morgan101's basement doesn't have a floor!😮 And what is this  ironing you speak of?😉 I'm not familiar with that term!😃

So when I got home, I took a nap! Not accomplishing as much as I want to! I did trim Bear's nails, vacuum, shock the pool, and brush Buddy (the donkey). I did two loads of laundry before work, have to bring in the stuff on the line! May do some liquid weed eating. I'm pooped out, will probably go drink a cold beer! Too cool to get in the pool, but nice outside, 64°! Tomorrow will be in the 80's!

Worked on my morning chores, then on to mom's place after lunch. I worked on some cleaning out in her apartment, then went to her medical room and visited. Also got her on the phone to her insurance company to say it was ok to talk to me and give me info. They verified her name, dob, and social, so I wrote it down on paper real big for her to read off. Husband's at the eye doc. We decided on the amish restaurant takeout for dinner tonight, so that'll be easy.

Took Dad to a cousin’s funeral today. I got to see cousins I haven’t seen in literally decades. It was good to spend time with them. It was sad not just because of the cousin who passed but because it was finally out in the open about one of the cousins from my generation. He has been diagnosed with ALS.

One of my six surviving brothers has ALS, he's over in Italy, his health slowly deteriorating... which sucks, since nobody in our family has EVER had ALS. Weird disease, but ultimately fatal. When I go, I wanna get hit by a train or a truck... something quick, ya know? No lingering death... no nursing home BS. Just BAM!!! DONE!!! ADIOS, WINGNUT!!!

Glad I didn't ride today, the wind has been gusting pretty hard and it's usually worse in the mountains. So that was a good call not to go, even though I was tempted. Haven't heard ANYTHING from my posted ads, I guess nobody wants a big ol' KLR, lol. Meh, we'll see, maybe somebody will come through with a lighter bike... if not, maybe I'll sling the KLR. 😒

Or I'll just keep it and use it the way I did last year, exploring all those trails up there in the mountains. Maybe I'll pull another recon of Red Sands and start mapping out the places where it's okay to ride the bike... there are some trails down there with harder surfaces, just gotta find 'em and put together a circuit route, aye? Again, we'll see... no rush. 😬

I got a curbside order from Walmart, fed Mom, and had a salad.

Wingnut, getting hit by something might have you alive and in pain long enough to regret it. Massive stroke or coronary in your sleep is the way to go. It's how several of my relatives have gone and how I'd prefer to go. Go to sleep and never wake up.

Shopping in the big town, half a dozen stops to make. I spent $380 at wallys and my cart wasn’t even full! Seemed every item I put in the cart was marked $12-$15. I stopped looking at the prices. They were giving me indigestion. After what I paid for lunch I didn’t want to ruin it also.

Went to the big box store, lots of empty spots on their shelves. They didn’t even have a rubber sink stopper. Shelves weren’t stocked at the auto parts store either. Even hobby lobby was a bust. But I managed get everything on my list but two items. I consider that a successful trip to town.

I took a chance on a “copper fit” wrist brace. I use a brace occasionally and needed a new one. My old generic brace was looking pretty ratty. Heard good things from a friend who uses the copper fit braces. Maybe it’ll be helpful.

Tonight I’m going to veg in front of the tv.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy some cheap tarps. Cover the offending plants. No sunlight, they will die off. Just a suggestion.

Hopefully they get out soon!! I bet grandson isn't going to be able to smoke crap in the house there!😉😃
Just a thought, write yourself a letter and mail it to yourself explaining a few of the major lies/problems related to them about the kids. When you get it in the mail it will be post marked and don't open it. After a few weeks or months when you learn of the problems the kids are still causing hand it to the new caretakers and politely say "I tried to warn you but this will remind you of what you failed to listen to. Hopefully the kids will step up and follow the rules but most of know that is highly unlikely. Maybe make 2 copies and keep one for yourself, unopened, just in case, or just take a video of the letter and of you sealing it in the envelope you send back to yourself so there is evidence you tried to warn them.
Either way I hope you get this burden sent elsewhere so you can relax again.

Three months from today and they turn 18 and they can be their own problem. Right now, as has been the last year or so, they are on a smear campaign. To make us look bad, makes them feel good. They'll probably be good for that family for about a month or so, then they can boot them to the curb. I would worry more about them influencing their 14 yr old daughter....drugs, how to use DCF as a weapon (child services), how to use a therapist as a weapon, how to do smear campaigns.....all that nasty stuff. But oh well. It's almost time to let this all go.
I have no idea what's on the agenda today. Morning stuff will be started soon. I have plenty of to do's on my list, but we'll see if husband wants to do something today.
