I just spent the last 3.5 hours in the emergency room (and driving back and forth). I was slicing up some watermelon for a late-night snack just after midnight.

Now I have 11 stitches on the end of my thumb. Guess that’s what I get for being a good prepper and making sure all my kitchen knives are razor sharp… go figure. :(

Below... the scene of the crime... I'll spare everyone the photo of my kitchen covered in blood.

Neat part, my er doctor was a holistic medicine guy. He wants to come for one of my medicinal plant classes.

Ouch @Peanut well as this prepper says at least it was the same colour almost as the food you were chopping :) . Seriously though make sure you have that bandage covered when showering or food prepping, plastic freezer bags work well with an elastic band around the wrist.

Hmm how do I know that I wonder  .

Too funny... :D Yep, got it covered.... just hurts like a b... sorry ladies, almost went there. ;)

Toughest rind on a melon I've every tried to cut through... when the knife went through... it went all the way to the bone... I never realize a thumb could bleed that much. I hate to see what my truck looks like in the morning... Probably need a new door panel... ;)

We have an expression here in the south that originates from slaughtering hogs. Their jugular was punctured when they were killed... The expression is... "Bleeding like a stuck hog".

I was...

Yep fingers do bleed a lot, same as head and feet and toes :( and they all have a lot of nerve endings in them as you have found out and hurt like heck when they are injured @Peanut. Make sure you got some good strong pain relief for the next few days, panadeine forte or something of that nature.

Thank you... you and yours are a blessing to this group but never seem to get the recognition you deserve.

Thank you again... :)

Feel better, Peanut! That must have hurt a lot. I had hand/finger injuries. That is what I seem to get a lot of when I'm not being careful.
I made a big dent in the kitchen cleanout yesterday, but the oven took 3 hours. With the fire extinguisher residue burnt on, it took forever to scrub out. Also did the fridge, behind the fridge, and about half the cabinets. Along with regular chores. All of the ducks now are showing who is a male and who is a female. Looks like at least 8 to cull, so trying to schedule my son to help to get it done quickly. Today's goal is to clean out a large loft, finish the kitchen, and do the master bathroom. Serviceman is coming between 10 and 12 to see about fixing the oven (new thermometer, heating elements and door coil), and a leaking dishwasher, and a built in microwave that I can't seem to find a replacer for that is the same size.

Just got back from a grocery store in town that had bacon on sale as a BOGO ( buy one get one). I wound up paying only $3 for a 1lb pack bacon so I bought 8 packs and have them in the freezer. I noticed some of the name brand bacon aren't even a full pound anymore! geesh at the price of them you'd think they'd give a pound wouldn't you?

They also had 24 oz containers of blueberries for only $3.88 which was half price also. I bought 2 of them so I could freeze them for this winter. My bushes aren't that big yet and haven't given me many so far ( only one gave me any at all). Hopefully another year of growing and some fertilizer will get me more than 2 handfuls lol

I just can't get over the price of food now-a-days. man!

Anyway now I have to wash sheets , dry and then fold and put away. Have to wipe down the bathroom. Need to figure out what to make for supper. I found a recipe for blueberry cookies to try but I think I'll wait until tomorrow to do it

Make sure it doesen't get infected. Salt water is a miracle cure once stitches come out.
I use table salt, it saved my arm and life when I was 6 or so.:huggs:

Ouch @Peanut! Praying for a speedy recovery!

This morning was fairly relaxed as we had beautiful soaking rain last night as well as a pretty spectacular lightening storm.

Fed the chickens, hand pollinated the zucchini, weeded and just enjoyed my small world washed clean.

I'm in a place of higher awareness and active gratitude in my soul and as I have my ongoing conversation with the Lord.
I'm often doing so without even noticing the tears running down my face as I work.

I was thinking that I'd like some Lamb's Quarter growing in my garden and had gone as far as tracking down a seed
supplier who sold the seed.
I went out to weed and I found it growing!
Maybe I haven't been paying attention to what weeds I have in my garden but
suddenly I've noticed dozens of Lamb's Quarter plants all over the yard!

GOD IS GOOD!

Thank you!

Our new Great Grandson, Easton, has arrived!!! He and mom are doing great! Her blood pressure had been an issue so they induced a month early and he was still 7.6! So, yay for mom, dad and baby Easton!

All I did productively today was wash dogs. And took a walk around the block!

Easton is a preemie and is 7' tall? (ok, I assume you meant 7lbs 6 oz in weight and not really a giant.)

@Peanut did you know that watermelons are basically the same color and look the same texture as any tongue? I tricked one of my kids with a piece of watermelon once. Had it in my hand and told him his brother had bitten off his tongue and I was going to have to take him to the ER. Psych. He fell for it. Kinda screamed, cussed a bit. I laughed so hard I cried. If he ever sees this forum he will know this is me.

Wahoo! Got 100% mobility with left knee(the one operated on).
Had grand daughter today, she hijacked Granny's walker for a bit.
But she walks with it quite well too.
Started doing exercises geared toward canes today at physical therapy.
Started on exercises with stairs too.
Go see surgeon on Tuesday morning.

Worried about my thumb... I finally (with the help of my dad) put on fresh bandages about 7pm. What worried me was that all the flesh above the cut, around my nail was white and had no feeling. I was worried the blood flow was cut off.

I finally slept around midnight, woke up around 3am, heard my dad go to the bathroom. Since he was up... went and got him... put on new dressings. All the upper flesh around my nail was pink, so getting blood flow. Whew, what a relief...

Dad helped me re wrap my thumb then wandered off to the duplex up stairs... I was freaking... after the first re-rap, all the flesh around my nail was numb and white... no blood flow... I think now, my thumb had swollen during the day, the bandages tightened and cut off blood flow. A lot less pain since I changed the bandage around 7pm. :) Much, much less pain now... Yes, it swole up, now under control, has good blood flow and is healing... pain level around a 2. Just enough to make me grumpy...

That was a melon you were cutting before slicing your thumb? :)
