Unpredictable weather. Lost count, but no less than three chances over 50% for precipitation went by. Dry! Makes a brutha feel God forsaken? Well, we got "A trace" yesterday. That's something. Just gonna have to start using some of that precious $70/ acre life giving liquid the hard way: irrigation.

The positive part is my smaller alfalfa field looks fabulous. Despite its being eight years old this year. A reminder to myself that I do know how to plant properly? I've done it enough over the last eighteen years?

But that doesn't stop well meaning advice givers from offering fundamental observations of my seemingly failed replanting of my big field. It's got me questioning my know how. There's so many variables with farming that you can't always do what you've always done and get the same results. This planting has been my worst, so gotta figure out how to make lemonade and proceed forward with what is the best option to improve upon what I've got...

Today has started out as a typical Saturday, did the grocery shopping, did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen, sorted and started laundry. Now I need to move to working out doors, have hedges to trim, lawn to mow. I need to clean some of my gardening containers and do a little work in the garden...

We have identified someone who may be willing to come in and sit with the wife a day or two a week. But she has health issues too (fighting cancer), but she was her mother's care giver for 15 years (mother passed 2 weeks ago) so she is in need of a little help too... Just need to work out the details....

Finishing up getting the solar panels up. Yesterday we had to stop early due to the rain. It poured hard in the afternoon.
Today I’m going to try and do the potato cage plantings when it warms up a bit.
Currently still in my pjs drinking coffee and reading a book.

Deciding whether to paint or run into town... our local library changed hours, and I'm not sure if they're open tomorrow. Gonna call and find out here in a moment: if they're open tomorrow I'll go ahead and paint today, but if they're closed, I'm gonna run in and pick up some more Westerns. I'm on my last one, and I don't wanna run out... those Westerns keep me outta trouble, lol. Otherwise, same old morning routine here, already watered and did household chores.

Finally!

I found the rime today to attempt grafting. I have a crab apple tree that served as my victim. I had collected some scions in December from a decent apple tree growing in the orchard on The Ridge.

It was an interesting adventure having never grafted previously. It took me a while to figure out a strategy of where to site the grafts to get a decent tree if the grafts take. I stopped after 5 grafts. So now all I have to do now is watch and wait.

I like trying out new stuff.

Ben

what exactly are they then? Just curious.
I’m sure @lonewolf will be able to answer this much better than me. From what I understand they are there to keep the people sovereign. The monarch is the first among equals. To make sure their constitution is being followed.

I got up early to watch because I like the pomp and the rituals. Rituals are a curiosity of mine. We have so few rituals here and rituals tie people together. Oh and sometimes I do like just watch the fashion and see the ladies’ hats.

We took his clothes to the funeral home this afternoon. Thankfully I was able to find his favorite T-shirt and his pocket things. I still can't believe that he's gone. I keep waiting for him to walk in with some smarta$$ comment and a grin on his face.
Your in my prayers for comfort..I'm so sorry..

I'm just getting about..we actually finished a week of graveyard shift. Its VERY slow production..makes the night drag out painfully..
I clean alot but not so much I get even more wore out, I'm fighting to stay awake past 2 am.
I go upstairs alot to move about, it helps keep me awake.
As I was on a walk about down stairs..I discovered a small stream of water bubbling out of the concrete floor in the electrical shop and behind it under a support beam. Actually..it was shooting out the bottom of the beam from a crack in the floor.
Apparently, someone turned on a valve to a broken line from the last shift I'm guessing. It wasn't doing this when I got to work. I arrived about 20 min early n walked by the shop past the bathrooms n breakroom n all was dry good then. About 45 minutes into shift I went on a walkabout that same way n a small stream was flowing out past the shop to the basement under the trimmer.
Everyone was helping the guys fix the debarker so I headed upstairs to alert them to this new discovery. 3 of us broke off the debarker fix to find the source of the leak. It seemed like it was comming from the burned up machine but after wading into the electrical shop it we found kinda the source no idea where the line valve was or too.
My area got flooded along with most of that area but it is evaporating fast dispite the weather outside thankfully.
Always something..

We drove down to the Boston mountains in North West Arkansas today. We went to pick up some Jeep parts, I got to visit with an old friend and we told Jake big stories about our old hog hunting days hunting them with spears and knives and such. We left before daylight and just got home. We had lunch in the oldest restaurant in Arkansas.

Library is closed tomorrow, so I opted for a town run today... no worries, I plan on finishing the master bathroom tomorrow, and that'll give me all week to knock out the smaller second (or guest) bathroom. The weekend kinda crept up on me, as it sometimes does. I have a nice stack of Westerns to read over the next 2-3 weeks, I like 'em when I'm not in the mood to party or watch TV. Just finished THE DOOMSDAY MARSHAL by Ray Hogan, I picked up a number of books from that series, along with books by several other authors. 😒

These libraries in the Southwest have great collections of Westerns, so many different authors... some of those authors are better than others, and I prefer the older material, written back when the Old West wasn't such a distant memory. The older material is generally more authentic, compared to modern cr@p written by authors who've never even ridden a horse, lol. Might start another book in that series tonight, depends upon how I feel... I want to get an early start on the stupid painting tomorrow, so I'll probably just wind up reading a book on Saturday night, a sad reflection upon my social life, lol. 🤔

I had a big ol' breakfast sandwich at midday, scrambled eggs & melted cheddar cheese with sage sausage on toasted Italian bread, so I'm not even hungry right now, I may not bother eating dinner. That homemade sandwich was good too, way better than any fast food cr@p, lol... I like that sage sausage, it's pretty tasty. I should try adding my own sage to sausage, I've always liked that flavor. Anyway, I'm just having a cold beer and feeding the cats before I go out and water the new plantings, I have many seedlings coming up and I wanna keep 'em alive. 😎

Sold some more chatty cathy stuff online this week. Made a decent amount. I can buy a new washer with my earnings but I have made over $600 for the year so I will need to hold back a bit for this years taxes. I hate that new law! It use to be several grand. I never made near that from my online sales (never tried to make a business out of it). Now I just want to purge what I don't need anymore.

Got a new battery for my old macbook pro. I upgraded the ram from 4gb to 16gb while I was in there replacing things. I haven't tested the speed out yet as I am waiting for the battery to have a full charge. I really do prefer that laptop to the newer macbook air I got in 2019. The pro is my workhorse. I also ordered a new ssd as a backup with 2T memory. I already have one for the air but I like having designated drives for each computer. Now I need to get the imac upgraded and set up with a new keyboard and mouse. Still need a ssd for that one. Yeah, I'm a mac nut. The costuming software I used for work only runs on a mac os. I have a pc laptop but haven't used it in years. Not even sure I remember the login.

Dealing with this 'super-bloom' pollen allergy. I can't go outside for too long without my eyes watering and sneezing. K is also dealing with this as are the kids. No fun.

Need to get my butt in gear and get the wagon listed for sale.

Another day of rest, starting to turn the corner I think. Had some bad days since the folk school, maybe the worst is over. It’s been 2wks. Figured I’d be down for the count for yet another week, maybe even 4 weeks.

Paid bills today, thought for a while the magic money fairy had come to visit. There was more in the account than should have been. Took a while but finally figured out the only check I wrote last month hasn’t cleared leaving $400 extra in the account. (haven't written a check in ages, forgot about it)

Guess I’ll call the folk school Monday, see if they lost my check or exactly what happened. When I arrived for the bluegrass event the director spoke to me about teaching plant classes for the school. While speaking with me she comp’ed a room upgrade for me, about $200. Surely she didn’t comp the whole event? I can’t imagine her doing that. Has to be a mistake of some sort.

Got laundry done, kitchen clean. No plans tonight but tv.

Had to trim up a Bradford Pear that was hanging over the driveway. Wish I had never planted them. Need to cut the three remaining, but that'll have to happen this fall/winter. Too much other stuff to deal with right now.
Mowed part of the yard. Got the camper hooked up. Taking it to a campground and dropping off the wife and a couple of her friends for a couple days.

Wow, your gonna drop your wife and her friends off in the wilderness 😮, what did they do?? If you don't go back for them they will probably find their way home! If they show up here you know I will feed them!

Not wilderness. Just a KOA up near the entrance to the Smokies. Wife has ran back into a couple of friends of hers back in the 80's and they are super excited to spend a couple days together

Wingnut, if I lived near you I'd help with the painting. Hope if goes well when you get to it.

Weedy, I hope you succeed at fighting the property taxes.

Spike, I'm happy to hear you have a new job position.

From my understanding of the UK royalty they are useless figureheads. A remainder of an archaic system. They serve no real purpose other than to keep up appearances and some sort of pomp and BS. At least, that is my take on it. I don't believe royalty should exist in this day and age. I only feeds into people having fame just for being born famous and not for something they did. Plus, in some ways it can suck for the people born into royal families because they are put under a microscope. The whole thing seems asinine to me.

My brain is not wanting to remember anything else right now. Yesterday we did go to get Mom a new phone. Traded in my old Note 4. The place in town had told me it was worthless but I called ahead at a place in Alexandria. Stopped at Golden Corral to eat and then headed home. I ate way more than I should have. LOL.

Went to bed and was woken up sometime in the middle of the night-- never checked the time-- by my brother saying something about ambulance and Mom falling. I had some music going to help me sleep and could barely hear him. I got up and went to Mom's room just in time to find my brother holding her up and telling her to hold on to him. Then she tried to step to the side. I heard him say "No, don't!" and then she fell again. He told me he'd walked into the room to use the bathroom and she was on the floor screaming "I'm going to die!" and that he got her up and for some reason walked her over toward the bathroom instead of trying to get her onto the bed (which she was right near). She had low blood sugar and was very confused again (this happened the other night but she didn't fall). She kept asking why her pants were wet and we kept telling her she spilled the dog's water bowl when she fell. I couldn't find any of the sugared drinks we keep around for when she has low blood sugar but I remembered where some mini hershey's bars were. I brought those in and had my brother feed them to her. After awhile she finally became lucid and felt like she could try to move back toward her bed. My brother needed some Pepto, then I needed some (we were both having stomach issues). He needed to lie down for a bit and I sat on the floor with her and talked to her until she was ready to try to move. But I started having chest pains and felt dizzy so I laid down. Brother tried to come in but I was in front of the door. I moved and then he said he would stay with her while I went to go lie down. I also had to run to the bathroom because of the stomach issues. Eventually, my brother got her picked back up and into bed. She doesn't even remember falling or being picked up the first time. I checked on her after I took a nap. Found her sitting up with her feet of the bed wanting to get her feet back up but she couldn't lift them up onto her leg cushion. I lifted them for her and got her tucked in. I still kept checking on her and bringing her water and stuff.

My back absolutely hates me today for some reason. I went to the store to get some groceries. I was going to pick up an RX for my brother but the pharmacy said there was never one called in. Brought back food for Mom and made sure she had plenty to eat. I've told her to page me on the intercom if she needs anything. I'm going to try to nap again and then check on her. I want to make sure her blood sugar doesn't drop again. I'm going to call our doctor on Monday to talk about the situation.

I wonder if Medicare will cover a Dexcom G6 and what the RX would need to say for her to get it. These low blood sugar things causing confusion are not good at all.

Hope your mom feels better today, Zanej
Just saw on KAKE.com that little granddaughter's grade school was on the news for the lunch we went to yesterday. Even showed our white pickup truck in the "parking lot". Ha. Not sure if husband is able to go to my favorite cousin's place for dinner tonight, we'll see. If not, I'll just make an easy dinner. Animal chores, infusion schedule, planting, putting up some more netting cages for the plants. Also meat chicken pen needs to be cleaned out. Plenty to do today.

I need to get off the internet and cook lunch...
Been busy all morning, cleaning the barn well, after putting everyone out and we just put them back in since it looks like it is about to storm really bad
One of the baby goats fell into a water bucket and got all wet, poor thing. But she dried off in the sunshine before it got bad looking outside
Also did some more planting in the garden. We are actually just about done with that thanks to son's help this year. He really got into the gardening, probably very unusual for a 25 year old.

Painting... hooray. Having a cold beer to get in the mood, but I AM gonna tackle that project today, lol. Luckily, there's not that much left to do in the master bathroom, and the smaller bathroom should be much easier to paint (later this week). 😒

On a more positive note, stuff I planted is coming up in the garden, and my weed seedlings are also making progress. Gotta be careful not to scorch 'em under the hot sun this afternoon. I'll be keeping an eye on 'em, that's for sure...

Going to workout this morning while stuff dries out from the last 2 days, then work on our root cellar when I get home.
Looking at plans to build these little pods so we don't need to deal with the county, not sure we can handle living in a RV through the winter again. Too unpredictable for heating.
