Our neighbor has one, but she doesn't farm. She just has 3 little dogs

Toyotas don't have enough engine power and the beds are too small. That's the problem
Sonja my Tundra has a 5.7 liter V8. I've towed a nearly 9000 lb 5th wheel with it and never had any problems pulling grades, or getting it stopped. It has a full size bed as well. A full sheet of plywood will lay flat between wheel wells and tailgate closed. Its rated as a 1/2 ton, but I've found it to be everyday as stout as a 3/4 ton.

Well, it's done. The guy picked up my old truck yesterday. He only lives about 4 miles away. I wasn't sure which house. Followed him home today to finish the paperwork. He came and got the horses this morning.

Looks like they'll have a good home, saw their pasture, at least they are together. I drive by there often anyway, so I can keep an eye on them.

Sold my car yesterday - sigh- I loved it like a dog. Not sure if anyone understands this! Anyway it's another job off my list, did some applications for funding and started back on my poetry for a competition. The promised rain never appeared, so spent the morning bucketing, then made muffins and a Sunday dinner of roast chicken and ham. The leftovers will do for lunches- the price of sliced meet here is horrendous, for all thats in it.

Poured an entire can of Sea Foam into the bike tank... gonna let it sit for a bit, in case that obstruction is in the petcock, which is more complicated than usual on this KLR. Watered this morning and did chores, now I'm relaxing... I put those sprouted weed seeds into a tray of dirt, then watered 'em so they can get started. Once they break ground, I'll put 'em outside to catch some sun. These are the eight replacement seeds of 'Purple African Magic' (all feminized), so with the four or five existing plants which are doing alright, perhaps this year's crop will be better than I expected after the first failure. It's certainly worth the effort, now that weed is legal to grow, and given the cost of buds at the local dispensaries. I hardly ever touch the cr@p anymore, but I'll style out my friends, and give some to those neighbors that are cool. That older guy who's living in a beater RV has some medical issues, he'd probably welcome a free sack of buds, lol. :)

I also noticed that some of the watermelons & squash I planted are doing alright, finally growing larger and spreading out a bit... if the monsoon rains arrive in a timely manner, I should have plenty of melons & squash, and hot peppers too. The corn is slowly growing, the tallest stalk is only a foot or so high, but it's making progress. It's tough to get stuff started in this dry soil, even with soil amendment and (twice) daily watering. Some seedlings didn't make it, they just couldn't handle the solar abuse and dry conditions, but I'll keep planting more sprouted seeds, I have plenty of those. If soil and fertilizer weren't so expensive, I'd plant more stuff, but I'll do what I can with what I have, and keep adding more as I go. In a few years, this yard should be more productive as a result... the fruit trees are hanging in there, and my blackberry vine is growing like gangbusters, it likes the spot I chose for it. Might have to add more berry bushes in the future...

Let chickens out and fed them. Working on school assignments and indoor tasks today. We're under a heat advisory so any outdoor projects beyond animal care will be pushed either to late this evening or tomorrow. We've been in the 90s off and on since the beginning of April. Currently it's 95°F with a feels like of 105°F an index up to 112° F and 48% humidity. Surprisingly low humidity for us.

Went to HD to get the right sized brad nails (I had the wrong ones). Was going to work on setting up the air compressor and nailer or setting up my table saw but when I got out of the truck my body was so stiff I could barely move.
Ran out of my thyroid meds yesterday. Didn't realize how low I was bc of the moisture absorber thingy in the bottle. Have to wait for doctor approval for refill.
Currently resting with Ruepert and Ginger sitting on me.

Two deer found their way into our backyard about 7 hours ago, and haven't found their way out yet. Of maybe they just like it here. They're munching on the crabapple trees. We have a six foot wooden fence which no doubt they could jump over, but maybe they're hesitant to do that if they can't see over the top. The Ring camera caught them strolling into the back yard through our south gate, which has been removed for repairs so it's wide open. But it's around the corner of the house from where they are now and not in view.

One has disappeared behind a large tree that comes to the ground so we haven't seen that one for a few hours. The other one is the guard it appears. He's (she's?) always out, but wary. Seems to be more interested in just watching us peeking out the door at it than afraid of us. But will run away if we move too fast. Didn't seem too worried about our cat. That cat is dumber than a stick. Didn't even see the deer, walked up to about ten feet from it (still didn't see it!), the deer was stomping his feet to scare the cat away, but the cat just blindly kept ambling along. Then it finally saw the deer and came slinking back inside in a low Corgy-style crawl. The deer was all proud of itself after that, kind of prancing around the yard. Then it laid down under the swingset, probably waiting for the stupid cat to come back. I was amazed at how long a deer's tail is when they stick it straight up (to intimidate the cat). The deer looked like a peacock with full plumage.

If these two guys don't manage to find their way out of the backyard by morning, I guess we'll call animal control or the wildlife department and ask how it is you go about helping a deer find it's way out (maybe they'll even come out and help them, who knows). I don't want to stress the poor things and have them injure themselves trying to get away.

I found mushrooms but not the ones I was looking for.
I followed a game trail to the top of a nice creek and small waterfall in this draw.
The first two pics are from today..the last one is just a fun doggy pic on a hike somewhere.
Anyways, I was real tempted to follow the trail down all the way to this creek but it was a bit if a ways and as always..I only vaguely told a coworker where I was going shrooming.
This is a hike I should do with another armed friend. It's kinda in the woods a bit and I'm no spring chicken anymore. Should something happen to me or one of the dogs..itd be a crappy day by myself.
But what a fantastic view!
And I found one ripe mountain strawberry..yummy!

It's interesting how text messages let us know that the lights are back on. I've talked to some people from different parts of the county, and they said that their lights came back on at precisely 7:20 pm. We experienced the same thing, and there were no electric trucks moving around the area. It was strange how suddenly, everyone's lights came on at the same time. A friend of mine even drove through town and noticed that all the lights were out. However, they came back on at 7:20 pm. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but it does seem peculiar that the lights were turned off.

After about ten hours they decided their little visit had come to an end. Up and over the six foot fence they went. No problem for them. I hope they come back for a visit again in the future.

I don't deal well with the heat and we were in the 90s for a while. Got a flat on the truck, called AAA but they couldn't find anyone to dispatch. Had a friend with me who is dependent on supplemental O2, couldn't wait for hours so I changed it myself but got sick from the heat. Then two hours later got another flat. Thankfully we were able to get the last six miles to her house with a 2" piece of shrapnel in the tire and air hissing out. I piled the two tires in her car and drove across town to the only tire place open on a Sunday. $43 to fix the tires and they put one on the rim backwards. It's criminal, what GM puts in the trucks for jacks and wrenches. Bent the stupid wrench trying to get the lug nuts loose, and it's only the grace of God that kept the truck from crashing down off that stupid little bottle jack. The AAA lady was so surprised that I had changed the tire myself. Did she expect me to sit there in the heat for 6 hours till they found someone? It's not like I was in the boondocks, we were in a city. Doubt I'll renew AAA next year.

The dirty rotten scum of the bank and lawyers have successfully stolen my Dad's house. Fraud, clear as day, but we can't afford to hire a lawyer to prove it. So now my brother has no place to live and we have to clear everything out of the house. I guess the small comfort is that Dad passed before the hammer came down and doesn't have to live through losing his home. Spending every minute I can helping to clear it out but it's a huge depressing mess. And I'm hauling stuff here to store right in the middle of trying to clear everything up here so I can put the house on the market.

Spent today resting and listening to the rain that has finally reached us. Should be unloading everything I hauled back yesterday but just too tired. Very glad to see the rain, we need it and hopefully it will wash some of the smoke out of the air. It's been bad here for a while, coming in both from Canada and some fires here in Michigan.

Open a gate and then slowly heard them so they can see it. But to be honest they may just like the buffet and the security they feel in your yard.

Good for you changing the tire!! We had the same experience with the AAA and it got worse. When we called them to ask if they can tow it from one repair shop to another a few miles down the road, they told us we had to pay for it ( even if we have miles left). I called a regular in town tow truck and they did it for cheaper faster. I guess there goes the AAA membership...worseless
And yes on the jacks that come with vehicles , no way would I use that little piece of crap on any of our vehicles.

Is ANYONE working in this country??? Husband just called the saw mill to see if we can pick up some sawdust tomorrow with the truck we are going to rent and they told him " we don't know if we have anyone available to load it on the truck, we are short people"
Wow, thats never happened before

One of the things I have already done this morning. And shovel out the gutter across the street that the City doesn't seem to do.

@sonya123 , I know I saw something about a German fermenter for salt rising bread. I didn't save it. Can you link that again, please. Hope springs eternal to make that bread!

Walked first.
Did VA video visit with DH.
Cleaned up branches, etc.
Will go to local doc visit for me, shortly, then drug store.

Spent Friday and today waiting on a FedEx delivery.

I placed an order with a delivery date of middle of May.

End of May I received notice that my order was shipped with delivery the first week of June with signature required. Bummer, I’m not going to home the first week of June. I go on FedEx’s web site and have them put all deliveries on hold until Friday the 9th.

Friday I dottle around the house keeping an eye out for FedEx to no avail.

Saturday I get a notice FedEx will be delivering my order Monday.

Monday I dottle around the house keeping an eye out for FedEx. Just before noon FedEx pulls into my drive. I can see the FedEx driver moving around in his trucking, taking him forever to exit with my package. I head out to his truck and he meets me half way. He apologizes, his travel order shows he had a package for me but he can’t find it, must be on the wrong truck. I tell him that’s fine, mistakes happen. He says it will be on Tuesday’s truck.

Car goes to the mechanic Tuesday morning, I’ll be waiting in the mechanic‘s lobby until the car is done. Cancel the car appointment so I can be home for the delivery, drive a hour to the FedEx warehouse to sign and pickup or let FedEx put a notice on my door that they couldn’t deliver because no one was home to sign and hopefully the try again on Wednesday?
