Survived PT on my leg, but it's gonna hurt tomorrow. Filled a cart at Aldi, and my favorite cousin checked in to see how Brenda, my husband, and my mom are. At least everyone is home. She said her daughter was helping with the serving of the lunch at the funeral, and they are serving 700 people. More than the people in our town! Will be going to pick up our HD order...chicken wire for the new coop top, hardware for the new doors going in the house. The door guy will start tomorrow, and finish up Monday. Also need to pick up husband's rx's. Over 100 here, so too hot to do anything for the garden till after dinner.

Finally seem to be on the downhill side of this respiratory virus. What a dozy this one was, going on a week and a half of just feeling like crud. I must have picked it up in our travels down to Florida and back. I suppose that is to be expected when you stuff yourself into an aluminum tube for several thousand miles, eat nothing but prepared food for 10 days, surround yourself with several million people, walk 30,000 steps a day, stuff yourself back into an aluminum tube and return home. Oh well. I suppose the memories of the trip and the enjoyment my family had was worth it!

Planning on getting a couple more vehicles finished and out the door today. I've got to get both my son's motorcycle and mine fixed. (He laid his down in town and messed up a few things. I foolishly decided I wanted a different exhaust and snapped a bolt off in the head). Then I've got to get his truck in the shop as well, his F-150 needs cam phasers and timing chains. Sigh. Being the family mechanic is not always the most enjoyable of tasks.

Waiting on some sourdough started to dry so I can send it to Amish, it was a little damp this morning, so I was apprehensive of bagging it and sending it to her, I'd hate for it to get moldy in it's journeys.

The wife and I are planning a run to Menard's this weekend to buy the pressure treated 2x6 lumber we need to make laminated posts for our pole barn. We are going to be punching holes in a couple weeks at the homestead to sink the posts into. The pole barn will be 24x40, with a 12' lean to on either side. We went with a 24' span because the price differences in pre-engineered trusses is astronomical between 24' and even just 30'. A 24' truss is $150, while a 30' truss is $275, while a 40' truss is $450. Being that the barn is mainly going to be used for equipment storage, I just couldn't justify the additional cost for the wider span trusses. We may wind up enclosing one of the lean tos, but one will be used to store hay and such out of the elements, but not indoors.

We've got to get some sort of larger storage area put up at the homestead. Hauling equipment and supplies back and forth on the car hauler is a pain, and not economical either. Having a place to keep mowers, the tractor, the side by side, etc, that can be secured from both weather and wondering eyes and fingers is a necessity at this point.
Glad you are on the mend , I HATE getting into Aluminum Tubes to travel.

Cleaned for one of my favorite little ladies today! Discovered her fridge was leaking water underneath. Hubby was tied up in Ft. Worth so we called an appliance guy her son knows. I pulled the fridge out, turned off the water. Removed the filter, seemed wet around it. Sure enough the filter housing unit was leaking. The appliance guy has it ordered. I cleaned under her fridge and the coils. I am heading poolside shortly! 107° right now!

Been on the run quite a bit lately. Last night after work, got green beans canned (think I mentioned that actually) 🤔
Have been playing a pretty mean game of musical rigs. Just got my bronco back. Here's how it looks with a new alternator and finally working fuel gauge 😂 I'm happy! I've had it since 1998 so am slightly attached.

WoW! That thing looks clean.

It wasn't too bad, had over 400k miles and a factory issue with hood paint (which was supposedly fixed). It spent last year getting a new engine + other parts and pieces then went and had a day at the spa to get the cosmetics taken care of. At least an alternator is sorta a maintenance thing - they happen.

Today has been a blur, first meeting at 03:00 (09:00 European time), finished at 11:30, sorted seeds and set up one of the vertical planters in the garden, have a pump installed and watered it down. Took a nap, then went back out an planted seeds. I have another early day tomorrow so I will be trying to get some sleep in before getting up at 02:00 to set up the meeting.... I was scheduled to be off tomorrow but that sort of went out the window. I was hoping to take off Monday, but someone scheduled a review meeting... This work stuff can get old, I've been working since 1970 and I'm starting to get tired of it.... But I really like my Lights, Air-conditioning and Eating, so I'll tough it out just a little bit longer...

I feel like I am in the movie " a series of unfortunate events" LOL, the kids liked that movie ....
One can only laugh or cry at this point, it is getting ridiculous

SO, first we woke up to the air pollution warning. This alone is weird. Whoever would have thought the Appalachian mountains of Virginia would have unhealthy air!
We decided to drive to town and go to the little water park there. I checked their website to make sure it's open and it said open , hours -10 to 7
I called to make sure, and nobody answered the phone. It was around lunchtime, so I figured they must be having lunch or busy. We drove there, and nobody in the parking lot. The @$3#$#$!!! pool burnt down!! I am not kidding. Building a pile of ashes, pool closed
We can't even get a break for a day.....

I think they need to update their website....

Big day (for me anyway) went to town with my youngest, got a battery for the car (finally) went to the GS and picked up some supplies, stopped at the cigar joint and picked up some Kentucky fire cured cigars for the holiday weekend, came home and put the battery in, now I'm whooped
Which KFC did you get?I smoked a Fat Molly Sweet last week. Smelled and tasted so good. But the stupid thing had a run in it the entire length. never could get it to stop even with several touch ups

Vet today after the cat uber, Teddy isn't as fat as he was. He hates his diet (who doesn't). Migraine, just took a bit of Blue Vervain Tincture, so soon I won't want to drill holes in my head with a spade bit :p

Looking at the most recent listing from our agent, this one doesn't look bad.

Hung the clock and fixed the tank/flush lever on the toilet, then decided to make some egg salad for lunch... Walmart eggs were on sale yesterday, $2.90 for an 18-pack, so I bought two "teeners" with the idea of using one pack solely to make egg salad. Added mayo, some paprika, a little turmeric, black pepper, and some 'Slap Ya Mama' Cajun Seasoning... downright delicious in a sandwich with a couple slices of Prima Della honey ham, lol. After cleaning up in the kitchen, I decided to "just lie down for a moment"---this of course led to a nap, and when I awakened I decided to read a book, so the painting touch-up went out the window, lol. ;)

I'm glad I started the book though, it is really good (short review to be written later in the appropriate thread), I'm saving the last half for tonight, lol. Here are pics of what I actually accomplished today, which wasn't a heckuva lot, but I'm tired of the self-imposed deadline for the kitchen, and I damned sure ain't gonna work on the kitchen tomorrow while I'm celebrating my birthday, lol. Meh, deadlines were meant to be broken... my way of sticking it to the man, though in THIS case, I AM the man, lol. Nevertheless, I shall finish the piddling tasks in the kitchen in early July... the project is just about done anyway, only the final finishing touches remain. Here are shots of today's heavy work load, lol...

Sure is nice to have an operational tank/flush lever again... truth be told, I've been lifting the tank lid and pulling the lever by hand for several days now, lol. Now I won't have to do that stupid BS anymore, and the old lever is already in the trash bin. Funny how much we take for granted in our daily lives: as a former USA INF soldier, I've cr@pped just about anywhere & everywhere in the field, and as a former OTR truck driver, all I can say is that ya just haven't LIVED if you've never filled a gallon p!ss jug or cr@pped in a Walmart sack, lol. TMI? Not for the hardened homesteading hee-roes here at H&CL, lol... no sidewalk sissies need apply for membership, "10-DASH-FO'???" I could go on to tell y'all about my 'scientific experiment' in which I attempted to cr@p in a Walmart sack while actually driving down the highway at 80 MPH in my big rig... an unwise experiment with, er, unsatisfactory results, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I was pushing the scientific envelope, ya see, in order to determine just how much time I could save in a day... I'm not going there again, lol. 😬

P.S. Those Walmart factory farm eggs may be chock full of gubmint nanochips & vaxxer cr@p, but that egg salad was mighty tasty, might have to have another sandwich tonight... 🤣

Went to the High Trestle Trail with my daughter tonight. The weather was 80° and dead calm, so it was perfect for a bike ride...

The deer came out on the river banks below the bridge...

And the sunset was gorgeous.
It was the kind of evening that was good for the soul...

Hey...Wingnut....HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow. Have an awesome day! Party with your cats!

I didn't get out to water till almost dark, then the heat was tolerable. High of 105 today. I lost two of my older hens, poor girls. They weren't that old, going on three, but couldn't handle the heat. Early morning tomorrow, the door guy comes. I'll have to make a good lunch. It's normal to feed your amish workers the noon meal around here.

Not me, but DW.
She decided to mow the yard at 8pm . (since it cooled down).
She is usually layed-back when she mows, but not tonight!
She not only had the throttle wide-open, but the traction-control nailed to the floorboard! She was flying!

She finished over 1/2 acre in 30 minutes.

If she comes up missing, I took her!! She needs to mow here! I'll bring her back!!😉

Being grumpy, crabby and have a cold. Vicious dog running loose in the hood, they couldn't find it, but they sure brought the manpower to do so. Had to get dressed, you can't put a .357 in sweatpants :(.Teddy and I cleared the neighbors and our yard, and nothing on security cameras.

One more appointment for a new front entry door and storm door, 50% of the visits didn't bother to send a quote as promised. Merlin liked the "family owned business" guy yesterday, so did we. Today is "Champion", I threw em out 30 years ago, so we will see.

For reference: "Renewal by Anderson" gave us a range of 3000-10000 bucks, nothing firm. Pella failed to send a quote even after reminders.
When we built our home I used Pella windows and doors, never had any problems with them, but then I installed all of them.

I got two Chunkys, one reg and one sweet. I already had one here, I have a Fat Molly too. and a Just A Friend
The Chunkier are my favorite "just have a little while" smoke. Just a friends are really good too. Ill think twice before I get any more Fat Molly's. That was 2 out of 3 that ran really bad.

These where here when we moved in, 30 years ago "Primax" had a lifetime guarantee. The lifetime of the company, not the windows :(

We asked Pella for a quote, they came, measured, and never came back with a quote.

Might not matter soon :)

I am surprised Pella didn't get back to you. I worked for Pella for 9 years, from 3/1/99 to 3/8/08. The factory I worked at built the Pella windows that you can buy at Lowe's or Menard's. They are a little more affordable than the ones you get from the Pella dealer, and don't have the same features, but they are still very good solid windows.

The Pella dealers are typically held to a pretty high standard by the company. I would reach out to Pella corporate if I was you. I bet you'd get a quote real quick...

Mailbox vandalized yesterday evening. Sigh I heard them do it but didn't see. Second time in about 5 months and we are right in town. I mentioned to DH last time that we should get a few cameras up outside. He ignored me. This time, it is his idea, so we will get some up. We did get the mailbox back in working order for now. I want a couple of wrought iron bars to put up on either side. Just for kicks.

Walked already.
Going to help a friend in town for a couple of hours today.
Get in garden for a short time when I get home.

We are under highest severe heat threat (or something like that). Won't stay out long.

Happy Birthday @Wingnut ! Have fun! My Birthday is Monday-66 Woohoo to both of us for making it this long!

Today is the last Friday of the month, so we're attending the local farmers' market. It's always fun to see what's in season and support our local vendors. Afterward, we decided on a little adventure and searched for yard sales. We're on the hunt for old tools and other unique finds. We found a cast iron frying pan for only $10.00! It's a great addition to our kitchen, and we're excited to use it for our next meal. It's always exciting to find treasures like this while exploring our community.
