The series of unfortunate events continues. I was having a decent day, work is done, no rain, and was taking the dogs for a walk . Out of nowhere a swarm of wasps attacked me and bit me mostly on one arm and my neck, a few on my hand. I ran like hell. This happened to me once before when we first moved here and my husband rushed me to the hospital because I was sure I was having an allergic reaction. By the time I got there ( hour later) the hospital nurse told me " if you had a reaction you would be dead already) so this time I didn't bother
But if it still happens later, it's been nice knowing you. I took 2 banadryl and had a shot of vodka...
Makes me think about adding an EpiPin to the first aid kit. Hope you recover quickly.

Funny, when I was a kid there was always someone around who chewed tobacco (or snuff). Rub some tobacco juice on the wasp sting, works great. The tobacco is antiseptic and blocks nerve pain signals.

Both ammonia and chlorophyll will neutralize wasp venom. I keep a bottle of ammonia in the house just for this purpose.

Once I got into a yellowjacket nest while working on a fence. They were flying up my pants leg. I stripped naked while running across a pasture. Anyone driving by would have thought I was a streaker!! 🤣

I don’t agree with that nurse. I think some reactions are fast, and others ‘build’.
Last time I was exposed to seafood, I didn’t even get a reaction. Time before, I thought I was a goner. Chugging Benadryl helped. Now I have the Epipen. Not being able to breathe and unable to get air in is nothing I ever want to experience again.
Having an Epi available isn’t a bad idea.

@Peanut i "liked" your post just before the streaker part. Well, okay.

I ran past a yellow jacket nest with another little girl when i was about 7. Didn't know they were getting stirred up by my old friend and his friend who had just been target shooting. Sting sting sting on my neck. Don't recall much else, I cried a little, it hurt. First time getting stung I think.
Catching my usual after work nap. Thinking about moving, have I mentioned this yet? By this time next year is the goal.

What's with the wasps this year? Jeez, seems like they're going off everywhere... I've only seen a few around lately in my yard (after I bought two cans of wasp spray, go figure). But I'm gonna be on the lookout for more of 'em trying to set up shop under the eaves of my home, and also under the porch roof.

Been taking it easy since my return from town, I talked to a couple of friends on the phone for awhile, they're still back in Coronado. Finished COMPANY OF COWARDS by Jack Schaefer, that was a good book. Tomorrow I'll try to finish up in the kitchen, now that I have a couple tubes of caulk... don't think I'll need both tubes, bought an extra just in case, lol. ;)

Still gotta water later, but otherwise I'm lying low and enjoying some rest & relaxation. Going to bed early tonight so I get a good night's sleep... Rome wasn't built in a day, lol. This ol' fixer home will keep me occupied well into next year, most likely, but at least its value is rising as I finish each home rehab task. I'm satisfied with my progress so far...

Forgot to mention that I made a new friend today... just some good ol' boy from Tennessee, by way of Kentucky. Out of 'The Volunteer' by way of 'The Bluegrass' in trucker parlance, lol. Started talking in the cat food aisle, wound up yakkin' for half an hour, lol. Cool guy, he's living in an RV on 10 acres of land his nephew owns somewhere near Alamo. 🤠

Decided to clean the little office area at home. Took everything out, moved the desk, cleaned, only put back the things that go in here which means there's still a stack of things that need to be dealt with sitting on the kitchen floor 😂 Can see the desk again. Did 3 loads of laundry, all hung up, dry, and starting to take it down, but have a batch of lemon sunshine cookies going so don't want to burn the cookies while getting laundry off the line. Me thinks the laundry can wait ;) Made Hubby Bacon Cheeseburger for dinner. Dishes all done. Mowed around skirt of yard and watered. Ran my June numbers which I'll put in the saving money thread. Oddly it seems like a slower day 🤪

Bees saved me a quarter million bucks today :p. Nice house, city water and septic, still had the well and cistern. Lori and our agent were chatting inside, I'm just looking outside to see what I can see. State RT 48, 55MPH, in the frontyard. Wiring to the garage nowhere in the same county as the Electrical Code. Chipmonks scampering into the attic through a giant hole in the soffit. 2 different species of bees with nests in the lower level soffits, that had dry rot :(

It looked ok in the pictures, but thats why you go eyes on.

I would NOT want to live on any highway, too dangerous for my cats, and noisy to boot. Boondocks = mo' bettah! ;)

As I was getting "priced out" of Arizona, I saw absolute train wrecks which should not have even been on the market... sellers were taking advantage of the crazy real estate market to dump those worthless homes which should've been demo'd, lol. You're right about pulling inspections of property, though with my current home I had to trust a home inspector, but he was vetted by the agent who had already proven herself to be trustworthy, so I bit the bullet and threw down the cash. I asked the guy to send pics of ALL trouble spots with his report, and not to hold back... I wanted to know what was wrong with the home so I could get a better idea of how much it would cost to rehab it. I'm happy with the way it all turned out, as I'm still free & clear... been that way since I left Kalifornia, apart from the time spent living in a tent, lol. Technically, I suppose I was still free & clear then, since I owned the tent and all field gear, lol.

Finally got the rest of the folk here on board and put up new 5’ tall welded wire fence around our bird enclosure. We had to drive in 6 T-posts but everything then else was screwed into existing trees. The last section will be put up after dinner. I am waiting for the cement to dry around one of the posts for the gate before securing the last section of fence to that post. Tomorrow I will pack dirt around the bottom and then layer rocks on top of that dirt. This is a great opportunity to have everyone police the yard for all the scattered rocks that keep surface.

Dinner time, BBQ’d chicken and potatoes. Mmmmmm. Then only another hour or so of work tonight.

They still are, Bought at Sheriffs action for 60K, listed a few days later at 120K. It really pisses Lori off, till I ask if she would pay a quarter million for something she has NEVER SEEN IN PERSON. ALWAYS do your due diligence, she should know that by now.

I put up a small lunch bag near a wasp nest last summer to try to deter their further expansion. It seemed to work. What I put up eventually fell down. The wasps assumed others had moved in and the neighborhood was ruined into poverty and crime so they left. If there is one thing I feel strongly about it is to not destroy stinging insects.
At work a nest was sprayed since it was near the entrance. Some of the inhabitants of the nest were out getting groceries when it was sprayed. They were angry and confused when they came back, no nest.
A couple of years ago I had a pest control place coming regularly to spray the perimeter of the house and parts of the yard. I haven't had ants in the house since then.

Does this mean that now you can't see the kitchen floor?
Yes, laundry can wait. I got the washer fixed! Still the laundry waits.
There, I used reply.
Lemon sunshine cookies? Recipe please.

We went to the car races. First time in years. The actual racing was kind of boring but the people were really interesting.
I said we were seeing Merica in all its glory.
I haven't seen that many big people wearing tank tops ever and bras were optional for the fat women.
One of the races was won by a 14 year old kid which was impressive.

I will ask next time I go to the doctor. I had an allergic reaction once to Tylenol , thankfully I was in the hospital at the time . They gave me pain pills with Tylenol in it after I gave birth to my daughter and I had a reaction like that. Now I have to be really careful to tell any doctor I see not to ever prescribe me pain pills with Tylenol ( acetomenophen or something like that) in it.
My former boss developed severe food allergies and almost died just eating something with peppers in it. After that he had one of those epis . You still have to go to the hospital after you use it if the reaction is severe enough. He ate a piece of apple in a meeting and had one. Scary stuff

We spray them all the time, but these came out of nowhere in the woods . It was weird. The first time I got attacked was when we first moved here and had a huge wasp next right next to the door. We didn't notice it at first and then we didn't take it serious since we had walked by it for a few weeks and nothing happened. After a few months out of nowhere I walk outside and got attacked. I wonder how they decide to attack you or not

Still alive. I think you need a doctor to write a prescription for one of those
You do. And the expiry dates are usually just about a year. Mylan is the primary manufacturer--they've got a coupon to help with the cost.

About your tylenol allergy, make sure your pharmacist knows about the allergy. Doctors send scripts to us on occasion for meds that patients' profiles show an allergy to.

Yeah, we bought one of those....lol
But it came with lots of buildings and land in our price range
If it's fixable it might be worth it still . Ours had a decent roof at least

Hey, I've been into big nests before, life on a farm, wasps like barns. A few stings is one thing... but if they get inside your clothes? There's only one solution, just hope no one is looking! 😁

I jumped in a creek once, didn't help, they kept stinging.
My Mom has been gone a long time so I can tell this😃😃. One day I came over and found Mom on the front porch, pantless, swatting her jeans that were on the ground with a broom! She wasn't sure if it was a wasp or a scorpion in her pants. I shook her jeans out and a grasshopper came out!! 🦗🤫

Doing a written exam for my class today. I've had all week to work on it but I'm bad about procrastinating. I should still be able to get it all done well before midnight though. It's 4 questions with 1-2 pages each double spaced. Everything except animal chores is on hold until I finish. I do need to wash some dishes and run a load of laundry at some point.

My SOs horse is pretty much settled in. I'm going to let him and my mare share a fence for awhile before turning them out together. They're polar opposites. He's calm as can be and she's high-strung and flighty. I'm glad he's steady because I'm retiring my mare due to some respiratory issues. We're trying different meds to manage to keep her comfortable but the vet said no riding other than the occasional short meander. She's 20-22 years old so it doesn't bother me to retire her. The gelding is 18-20 but is in great shape. He hasn’t been ridden much over the last 7 years but is well-trained and was a roper before SO bought him. He should work great for checking fences and pushing cows. Mostly slow steady work without anything crazy.

Jake and his friend Jake catching some air on Table Rock yesterday. My Jake is on the right.
