Got wordle on my second go! :D 'tis the little things...
Heading into the bank holiday here- so going to town to stock up on milk & bread, as all but one person will be home for a week as Uni's close for mid-term (not mine though). The one is heading to Prague with some friends for Halloween. I'll also head to a freezer warehouse place to stock up on chicken goujons. Usual chores before getting another few hundred words of my thesis done, and trying to fit in some baking. The hens are laying up a storm, so a Victorian sponge is in order- or as we call it, the Number of the Beast cake (6oz sugar, 6oz flour, 6oz butter then 3 eggs, 1tsp b.p and vanilla essence)

I hope your wife's eye surgery goes well next week, Urban. My husband was super agitated about it before getting it done. Not sleeping well, argumentative, mad he couldn't see well...but I will tell you, he is so happy now that he did it, and no problem getting the other one done in a couple weeks. He can't be put to sleep at all for surgeries because of his breathing, and that was alot of the nervousness.
Work around the farm today, and then little granddaughter and I will bring free kittens to the "fowl sale", our local animal auction. And hopefully not be terribly tempted into bring home more "something".

More driving, forgot to pick up my prescription magnesium pills at the pharmacy and they have already left 2 messages to pick it up, plus out of milk again already. Son wanted a box of cereal ( something I almost never buy and don't eat, tastes like cardboard with sugar on top to me) so now the milk is gone

We did put up the gutter yesterday plus replaced a section of rotten wood underneath the roof. There is more but we can't reach that high. It's a 2 story shop building
We also started replacing the plastic on the barn windows. Do that every winter. The original windows were long gone when we bought the place and it is way too expensive to replace windows in an old barn but since it gets so cold here we staple plastic to the frames and it works. We take it down during summer

I do the same with the plastic on our chicken coops, and one garage, and a missing doorway on a greenhouse. A milkhouse window, I ended up putting up a thick quilt to keep the cold air out. This is also on my to do list today and tomorrow...and bringing in all the potted plants to the greenhouse, AND picking way more cherry tomatoes. Ha. We'll see what gets done.

No day off today, just a small cleaning job and working with the mini Aussie I'm training. Bringing firewood in the house for the upcoming cold next week. Rainy weekend with a big cold front Sunday! Got in the pool yesterday and gave it a good vacuuming and ran shock through it. Going to let the pump run on the freeze nights, not doing winter prep yet!

I use similar stuff on my raised bed tops and greenhouse walls. This year I switched to a heavier 6 mil material that is UV resistant for 4 years, it was almost twice as expensive but if it last 4 years instead of one I will save money in the long run (plus I don't have to be spend as much time replacing the stuff).

Beautiful wife n me got some paint on the window trim n corner trim yesterday. With the primer on the siding it kinda looks painted. Now a couple more siding boards and then caulk everything. Couple hundred feet of cracks. Glad we bought a ryobi battery caulk gun. And HD has 2 ryobi batteries for 99 bucks and get a free ryobi tool. So now have a portable 4" grinder, free kinda. Ryobi batteries suck, maybe it's being in freezing temperatures all the time.
And my beautiful wife can do a lot of the caulking. I do the ladder stuff.
Then 80% of the outside will be sealed up. I need to get the vapor barrier on the cieling and sheetrock it. So we can blow the insulation in. 20-22" near r-65-70. Then we can finally get some heat in the house. We will fire up the fuel oil drip stove. Haven't gotten the boiler set up yet. But we will have heat. Getting kinda cool working out in 20-38 temperatures all day. But we are chugging along n things slowly get done, just have to stay healthy

I'm going to measure and cut a furring strip to mount to the wall above my computer so the anchors for the tie downs can be attached. Well, need to make sure they will fit first. Once I measure and cut I'll prime & paint the strip. We'll figure out what height to put it at later.

Also need to do some cleaning. Might need to go to Walmart for some more salads.

Might end up needing to take my brother to the doctor if his symptoms from last night come back. He was having a literal pain in the butt. Said it felt like a charley horse. He was yelling at me and being rude about it when I offered him some naprosyn for the pain. I've told him he needs to see the doctor and get a prescription for pain meds if it gets bad again. Also, he's old enough for a colonoscopy & his insurance should cover it.

Sprinklers are blown out for the winter, moved the snowblower to where we could use it because snow’s due tomorrow night.

Hit the Y and worked out — they have one of those eGym circuits and I like that pretty well, I desperately need some strength training.

Made baked pasta for lunch and now understand why people keep jarred sauce in the pantry rather than making it from scratch every time. It was kind of an impulse decision. I think I’ll plan to put some up when I get a chance.

Not sure what I’m doing this afternoon. Maybe busting out my old NaNo piece and seeing about knocking the rust off of it. (I don’t usually do NaNo, what red-blooded American has time to write during Thanksgiving and Christmas months? 😜 ) What I had down feels pretty good so maybe I’ll see if I can actually turn it into something.

Heading outside to gather winter fuel as soon as the rain stops. I have plenty of firewood covered. Will CAREFULLY check for snakes, I'll use a hoe to lift the plastic tarps! Will also have my rubber boots on, can't believe this spotty heavy rain this afternoon!! Getting another sun shower, crazy!! Going to be a very wet weekend, I will be home with a huge list of inside jobs! Going to take a quick nap right now......on the loveseat, Bear has the couch, the whole couch!!😮🐕‍🦺

Woke up and the power was off… 🤬 so my landline phone was dead. Since I have no cell reception either... I had to drive a few miles down the road in range of a tower to call a friend on my cell phone.

She came and got all the yellowroot and sida I’d harvested for her milk cow’s staph infection. (harvested a bucket of sida yesterday) I also gave her a quart of sida tincture that I could spare. Hopefully this will clear the infection. The cow is doing much better. The cedar and garlic did wonders but isn’t strong enough to completely wipe out drug resistant staph alone, needs a little help.

While she was here she picked up 3gallons of pecans and a bucket of walnuts. No one wanted the pecans and walnuts cover the driveway.

The high speed internet people were here to install equipment on the power pole out back. My state took excess covid funds and decided to wire the whole state, a good thing. Some people are still using dial-up. I have satellite but it's metered, slightly better than dial up. Anyway, I might actually have a real high speed connection by thanksgiving. :)

Sounds like you live in ohio :p. Rain, Sun, who knows what will be next :). Life is a highway!

Today wasn't a total loss, I got my shallots planted and I replaced 5 tube light fixtures with LEDs.

During the process I learned a few lessons: Lesson 1) I ended up being about 5' short on electrical wire (always buy extra).
Lesson 2) Never trust that the guy who lived there before you did anything correctly (I found that on some of the fixtures they had placed the switch on the neutral wire) crossing hot with ground while the switch was off was a shock! (that made me think of @Neb ).
Lesson 3) When working on electrical circuits turn the power off at the breaker! Refer to lesson 2!

Re: lesson 1

Brace yourself. When I purchased my last roll of 12ga wire I had to get someone to unlock the cage.

Had more snow last night. Cold and windy today.
Went and looked at some horses for sale. A ranch down the road is selling 42 head. We'll go back next week and talk to the owner.
Also found a property for sale. It's 320 acres with water. It runs 75 pair plus has hay and grain fields. It'd make a nice addition to our mountain property.

pounded trail this afternoon.this is up on flat of a big ridge top.

I'm fighting a ferocious cold. It's in my ears and eyes now, and I have a completely dry cough that comes from way down deep in my lungs. My ribs and core muscles are sore from the coughing, my left ear has fluid built up in it, and my right eye is sticky and bloodshot as hell. I would've sworn it was covid, but I've had three negative tests. I'm taking OTC stuff to get my ears to drain, and prescribed antibiotic drops for my eye...

Get well fast Spikedriver!! I'm off today, going to be raining. Getting in the kitchen this morning to prep for upcoming burritos. Will cook extra ground beef for a possible lasagna soon! I still need to finish cleaning my closet. Also moving some furniture around in the den and giving it a good cleaning. Also need to vacuum the whole house, clean bathrooms, and do laundry!! Will sneak a nap in at some point! Thundering now, glad Bear got out earlier to take care of business. Buddy will be waiting at daylight for his food delivery service (me😉) to bring breakfast to his barn!! He took care of his morning announcements at 4am!!😃

Had a great time at fowl sale this evening. Five kittens got new homes, so that was great. Little granddaughter and I had dinner there. There were so many roosters for sale, I lost count. Mostly went for a buck a piece. Also goats and pigs.
how much did the goats and pigs sell for on average?
We sell our chicken for $4 a lb at the market. Where those meat chicken roosters or just regular ones?

Spikedriver, hope you feel better soon!!

No plans for today other than take care of the animals and cook.
The weather had been really nice here this week, will change next week and I am really going to hate not having the Ranger. It's still not fixed yet.
I still have some things left in the garden and thinking about covering them up for the freeze , might warm up some again ( kale, collards, lettuce, peppers, the peppers I am all going to pcik today even if small)
Miss going to the market already and the eggs are piling up
