I wacked another 12 roosters yesterday, so I got them parted up and into the stock pots with all the veggies and simmering.

Made my secret sticky wing marinating recipe for the wings. They go in the freezer tomorrow.

Sliced up the gizzards & hearts and got them in a Chinese tenderizing marinade and into the freezer.

Diced up all the breasts from the 27 roosters and bagged them for the freezer. When I've got time and some free pans, I will make up a big batch of chicken Indian curry to be freeze dryed.

Three little stewing hens cost $37.00 at the store. I keep telling myself that when I want to quit.
That is a lot of roosters to harvest in one day. Did you have help?

I've been reading that Costco has had roasted chickens for less than $5 each, with prices varying from warehouse to warehouse. I go one for $4.99, ate some, cleaned and chopped up the rest of the meat, stewed the carcass to make broth. I don't think I can get a whole chicken for that, even from the Hutterites. A few years ago, they were charging $6 for a whole chicken.

I had never heard the tail called the pope's nose. My grandmothers called it the oiler. I throw the whole back, along with that in the stew pot. I also put all the skin and parts that I don't eat in the pot as well, along with onion, celery, carrots and some herbs and seasoning.

Most weekends I take it easy (goof off?). So assembled an angle grinder tool bag. All of the wheels and tools in one box in the bag along with grinder. Grab and go. Battery powered so will work most anywhere.

Moved most of the tools I have used in recent projects got packed up and stowed. Sat down and read half a Algebra work book. I need to brush up on factoring polynomials.

Tomorrow I will install a new corner shower shelf assembly. Then some more tutor time.

Ben
I don’t think I ever imagined I would hear “goof off” and “algebra workbook” in the same post.

Sitting here watching youtube vids with Daughter and just so glad to have her here with me. She drove me to my oral surgery appt today and has been taking good care of her ol' mom. Jaw is achey and bloody yet but I managed a bit of dinner and am sipping on a Vernors, the Michigan answer to any illness. Amazing sunshine and warm weather here today, would have been better spent doing outside chores instead of sitting here with an ice pack on my face, but oh well. I'm sure once it all heals up I'll be much better off without the broken and rotted old tooth anyways.
Another BIG step forward!! The sunshine was a good sign of things going in the right direction!! ♥️

Our dear friends' son and girlfriend's vehicle gave up the ghost and so we gave them our 1989 Ford Windstar, we quit driving it in 2019 due to the transmission acting up, even after having it worked on, I think it's heat related because the last time I drove it it shifted without a problem, our friend is going to put a new filter in it for them. The Windstar needs a new battery, windshield wipers and better tires, that's something they'l have to take care of but at least they will have transportation which is free and no longer take up room in our driveway.

12 is my daily limit. Just the wacking, plucking and cleaning. No help.

I don't know if there is even a poultry processor anywhere within a 12 hour drive. I haven't bothered to look as 4 years ago, the other side of the country, the cost was already $4.50 a chicken, $8.00 for ducks, $10.00 for turkeys.

Costco chicken is $10.00. We don't like them. After eating home grown free range birds with a bite to 'em, commercial birds are too mushy.

The other point of view would be that my chickens are tough.

I finally got a good nap. Watched the season finale of Loki. My brother informed me that he used peppermint oil on Mom's desk and that the roaches were dying from. Throat isn't as sore and voice doesn't sound so rough. When I went to Walmart earlier I saw a couple of friends that worked there and told them that I could now sing like Bryan Adams. My friend who needed the outlets didn't know who Bryan Adams was so I regaled him & his fiance with ♫Look into my eyes♪ You will see♪ What you mean tooooo meeeeeee♫ in a very raspy voice.

Went to check on Mom and see if she needed food again and she asked me if I smelled peppermint. I told her that I didn't smell anything but that bro said he put peppermint oil on the desk near the modem. Problem is, it is toxic to cats.

Anyway, throat is not as swollen and sore-- still slightly swollen but voice is a little better, but I've completely lost my sense of smell. If its still gone in the morning it will be a good time to clean litterboxes. LOL.

I get at least one of those chickens every time I go to Costco. We eat off of it for two days, then the rest of the meat is stripped off and put in the freezer. The carcass and all the tray leavings are in another bag waiting for a mate or two to make a big batch of broth. I have a patient that goes to Costco before they close and buys all the chickens right before closing (they're marked down). She breaks them down and freezes and makes broth also.

My SIL's aunt called tail of a turkey the Pope's Nose and would eat that part at Thanksgiving dinner.

I bought one of those Costco chickens about a month ago. The thing was huge. I don't know how they can call it a "chicken". It was more the size of a turkey. I was able to eat 1/2 of one side of the breast, and I was stuffed. And I am not a "light eater". I wonder how many hormones and other things had been injected into that chicken to make it so large. The breast meat was very soft. I don't know how else to describe it. It just seemed kind of "inflated feeling". Like a big muscle, but a weak muscle - if that makes any sense. The chicken tasted fine. It was a texture thing, not a taste thing that slightly turned me off. But it didn't turn me off so much that I didn't eat the entire chicken. Took me like four or five days of daily munching, but I ate it all. The wife didn't touch it, she says there is some kind of spice they use on them that she doesn't like. I didn't notice anything like that myself. I would buy one again. But not often.

It was a texture thing,
Last time I had a texture problem with chicken, it was in Mexico and it was actually iguana. LOL I knew it wasn't chicken, probably cheaper for them to use.

We went to visit DH's brother yesterday. He is in worse shape than DH. It was Dh's first time to drive since he fell. He is still doing well with therapy and getting around.

Today, I will walk first, didn't walk yesterday- raining all day and too lazy to do a video.
Will walk dogs.
Do Laundry.
Make dehydrated sweet potato slices for dogs.
Maybe get to finishing the Christmas cards I keep putting off. Now you know why I start early!

I understand that there is a problem with over population of iguanas in tropical areas. They can probably sell it better by calling it chicken than if iguana was on the menu.

I remember as a kid we had a family vacation in Mexico. Flew into Guadalajara, got tired of it there fairly quickly, so we rented a car and drove to Puerto Vallarta. Wouldn't do that for a million bucks these days, but back then - well, I'm still alive, so we made it.

We stopped to eat in a small place. As children, of course me and my sister ordered hamburgers. They were strange tasting. There were workers in the restaurant who spoke a little English, so we asked them if maybe their beef had spoiled or something. They laughed, and said, "Not beef ... cabrito!" We did not probe further at that time - not wanting to possibly disturb our stomachs any further while still eating. We later asked at the resort in Puerto Vallarta. They say, "Sir, that is not cow, that is goat."

Glad your husband is driving, Snappy. Husband is saying he's going to drive himself to the foot doc today and get his walker out of the truck by himself, and go into his appt. and not use a wheelchair. We'll see. I'm not feeling well today, but I can make myself take him if he insists. Husband hasn't driven for maybe 3 months, but now he's had eye surgery, so there's that.

Goat is tasty!

Hope you get to feeling better!

Done splitting and stacking wood because the splitter needs the cylinder seals replaced! Will order the kit and into Hubby's shop it will go! Going to brush Buddy and give him his paste dewormer! Not doing a whole lot of much after that. Feed the critters, walk Bear down to the creek later. Drink a few cold ones! Maybe ping pong in the shop later! This is a busy work week and I am tired already!

Busy day, dropped off bread and eggs at a customer, went to the indoor pool to swim, did 22 laps ( competition size laps), filled a cart at Aldi ( bought some beef for beef and broccolie, cost around $11 for around 2 lbs) , filled 2 carts at walmart ( some were large things, like dog food bags and water bottles) , came home unloaded, put away, cooked, did dishes and it was dark. Husband took care of animals while I cooked, hope he didn't leave any gates open...animals are out tonight, not too cold
I hate it when the daylight is so short

Since my sons high school football team won the semi-finals game last Saturday they get to play for the state championship this Saturday..... in Reno. Yay for them, and I "get" to fly to Reno Saturday morning for the afternoon game. I am actually looking forward to going to the game, I just hope "The biggest little city" is not as scummy as Las Vegas. Since the cold temps arrived maybe the upwardly immobile (vagrants) will have migrated south for the winter. Well, I can hope.

Plane reservations booked, need to look for a decent and cheap hotel. If they have a team dinner that includes family after the game I will attend but if not I guess I will just find a seat at a bar and try and pass time that way. I don't gamble and I wont know anyone in the area so maybe I will find someone to talk with to pass the time.

We got up early and worked cattle on a friends farm. Jake castrated all of the bull calves then we came home dropped Jake off to school so he could go to a barn warming party in Hollister. I ended up spending the afternoon sitting in a tree in the woods waiting for a buck.

There was only 8 sets so the dog got them. We absolutely love them in this house we just didn’t have enough for a fry this time.
I miss brandings. That was the reward for the year’s hard work. Also, I went to school for prevet- I was the only female who would castrate a critter (I’d been doing it all my life). Nuts are tasty! My brother and one of the other guys would roast them on their pocket knives and eat them. The rule was count ‘em as you eat ‘em 😋

Woke up about midnight and got back to sleep about 2 then woke again about 4 when the coffee started. I had left the radio on so I suspect that’s what woke me even though can’t really hear it from the bedroom. Hubby sleeps through anything when he sleeps so he didn’t hear a thing. Hoping to sleep tonight. Thinking we might head to the Deschutes River for the weekend. It’s the only way to get Hubby to take a day off. It’s fishing season 🎣
