Some details about the school shooting near me have been released. The shooter had a .22 pistol and a pump 12 Guage. There was one fatality, a sixth grader. 5 others were wounded, including the principal who apparently was shot in the head. All the wounded are expected to live, if not fully recover. The shooter took his own life. The motive was that the shooter had experienced intense bullying for some time. He had reported it but the school administration did nothing. So he took his revenge and a sixth grader paid the ultimate price for it...
I hope at least it was the 6th grader that bullied him

I think I might have found a way to cut down on expense flying to Germany. Rent a car here, drop it at Washington airport. Get tickets on Aer Lingus ( Irish airline) to Dublin , then get different tickets on Ryanair to get to Germany ( they are super cheap, like Allegiant from here to Florida) We will have to spend a night in Dublin on the way back to make sure we don't miss the plane in case the Ryanair is late but it should be doable.
Renting a car for a day is not that expensive btw. Under $100
Might rent a Uhaul for $19.99 a day. We'll see
The good thing about doing it this way is I can avoid the main large airport in Frankfurt and fly to a smaller one near where my dad lives. He can just pick us up, it's not very far ( he is still mentally ok and still drives)

so our friends in town now have covid. He is in the hospital with pneumonia, she is home but just coughing. This is the friend that got damaged from the covid vaccine. So it didn't even prevent him from getting really sick.
She told me the hospital doctors told them it's going around again, flu too and lots of sick people

I am going to have a shot of vodka every time we go out shopping from now till end of winter ( no worries we only shop once a week at the most)

Looking out the window, we just got a dusting of snow so far. But got a call from the school, and it's cancelled today due to more snow coming all day today. So, just have to pick up the neighbor girl this morning and get her to amish school. They never cancel. I'll let little granddaughter sleep in till I get back, and then I'll have a helper for animal chores this morning, too. Husband has an eye doc appt in the bigger town I need to get him to this afternoon, and a bunch of prescriptions to pick up.

Getting ready for an event tomorrow
I have some
Ladies wallets that need finishing up
And a cowboy hat

This needs black stain, and edge work

I want to clarify my angry emoticon.

It’s hard enough for a child to recognize a problem and ask for help. Then to receive no help when you’re young and vulnerable is beyond comprehension. He was failed by the very people who are entrusted and empowered to help and protect him.

From what some of the students there have said in interviews on the news, that is exactly what happened. The administration failed to take it seriously. Two classmates were interviewed and said he had been bullied badly since elementary school and he and his younger sister were both bullied worse once she got to high school...

I'm wondering about his parents? He was very young to feel so failed, and I agree with you Tommyice. Its is maddening.

From what my nieces kid tells me about todays high school. Ignoring the bullying is a normal practice
Teachers will tell you quick that raising your kid is your job and not theirs
That if the bullying is not happening in front of the teacher there is nothing they can do. What will people say if a teacher takes the word of one kid over the word of another? They (teacher). Are caught in a catch 22

Could it be that we as parents or society
Are failing the youth? Kids are not kids anymore they have no social skills and have no idea how to cope with in a group they can only cope if looking a a computer screen with out any idea of how to communicate.
Parents are not parents and a cell phone raises the kids
No wonder they are wacko

To my mind, things need to be investigated at the very least. Students know what's going on. It seems like after a lot of student suicides, the investigations turn up online incidents.

Kids have always mistreated each other, but it used to be that you stood up for yourself and even if you got your ass kicked, everyone respected you for standing up for yourself. Now you get punished for standing up for yourself, and the internet gives bullies safety and let's them remain anonymous. And kids don't have any healthy coping mechanisms. None of it is any good...

This is my opinion
How to deal with a bully
First you use words to settle a conflict
You talk,
If that approach does not work then you are left with ONLY one option
Kick the bully’s ass,

A pecking order is part of growing up and being a social being. You learn as you mature how to interact with others. How to perform communication judo
And yes, you have to learn how to defend yourself
A kid CAN NOT run to the teacher or a parent when being bullied, that will only make things worse. It is the sad truth that a child has to learn to stand up for them selves on their own it is a right of passage into adulthood.
A black eye or busted lip is a temporary hurt. But the self confidence and the feeling of self worth for standing up . That feeling lasts a lifetime

My kids were taught from the get go that if they start a fight I will come down on them like a ton of bricks
But if someone starts a fight and they are defending themselves. I am behind them 100>% will defend their actions all the way.

Hey Spikedriver,
Let’s discuss whose responsibility is it to
Monitor a students behavior.
Is it the teachers?
I say YES, when the student is in his/her class it is most definitely their responsibility
But what about the other 8 hours of the day or online?
In my opinion that is not a teachers job that is the parents job
I say get rid of the damn cell phones and 99% of the bullying will come to a screeching halt
Or am I being naive?

2-3 hours per chair
So you are doing almost the same as me
Not charging for your labor

That chair should be
$100
2- hours @20 per hour =40 for labor
Profit. Is calculated take labor cost times 2
So labor and profit should be $80
Material is 25
Total is $105

Ok that’s the formula, but because of The economy no one has disposable income. And you and I take it in the shorts and have to cut prices just to sell
This frustrates the bono outof me

As bad as the economy is, people are only buying what they need. Did craft shows for years, same thing happened in 2008.
Had to try something, soc sec is losing ground. I became disabled at 59, took me 5 years to get disability, ate up the savings. I am 75. Worked several years longer than drs said I should.

Took a bit to get everyone rolling this morning. My oldest son went with his dad for a fun (enter sarcasm) day of cleaning chimneys with forecasted 35 mph winds. He was annoyed that he had to get up early on his day off from his actual work, but obliged me because I didn’t want his dad bouncing off the ground if the wind made things spicy. The other kid doesn’t have school on Fridays, so he gets to sleep in until I get going take my mom swimming at a local hot springs. I did just tell him to wander into the shower, there was some grunting and flopping about so maybe? I’m sure grandpa will have some fun project in the wood shop lined up for home or they will hangout on the couch watching Mash until we get back from swimming.

I'm working on chairs for children.
I have been making shaker style with webbed seats in bright colors.
I split the frames and spreaders out of ash .
It's been fun.
We want photos. Love the shaker style.
Edited to add @Frodo !! Ridiculous! You should be getting at least twice that for the saddle bags.
