I also get finger injuries from doing gardening/cooking/the odd homesteading thing. My kids laugh that I should just keep a box of bandaids in the kitchen. I have tried and tested out skin glue for good size cuts. It does work.
Skin glue does work. I first heard of it when a former student of mine had glue instead of stitches in his head. I once found some in the discount bins at the grocery store and bought some for my first aid kits.

Wearing gloves helps prevent injuries, but many activities are more difficult when wearing gloves.

Getting ready to do husbands last IV antibiotic. Then he can have his midline removed tomorrow. Went to the hospital with him for an ultrasound today. Glad it's the last of the antibiotic. I can finally sleep more than 7 hrs a night.
If he is off antibiotics, he must be feeling much better. Glad you get to have better sleep again and that he is improving.

Round 2 of today is that we finished double shelling all the broad beans and have them in the fridge to blanch and freeze tomorrow.
I deep cleaned the bathroom and toilet for the week.
We folded up 3 loads of washing and put it away.
Made the bed with clean sheets.

My fingers are aching from shelling broad beans as some of the skins went up under my fingernail ouch and I had to dig them out with a nail file. One of many dangers and accidents of living a self sustaining/homesteading/prepping lifestyle .
I am wondering if wearing disposable gloves would help with the injuries? I find them awkward and don't wear them much. I see people who seem to wear them all day long.

Thanks, Weedy, he is feeling better. He got the midline taken out of his arm yesterday, too, so now he can shower without saran wrap and tape. I wear gloves more and more now (after two bad staph infections in my hand) especially when working with the ducks. Then are always wet and messy.
Today is the first normal Saturday I've had in a while. Apples and peaches in the freezer need canning, 3 roosters need butchering, some schoolwork needs doing, always laundry needs to be done and housework. Husband and I plan to go out for dinner tonight...twins have an event to go to. So no dinner cooking needs to be done.

Thanks! I hope you do, too. I don't know why staph is more prevalent nowdays, but I do keep some doxicyclen on hand.
Thought I had time for canning, but just spent the last few hours in urgent care and waiting at the pharmacy...grandson woke up with pink eye.

Hubby had a bad case of pink eye this month. Both eyes. He went through the eye drops and then was put on an antibiotic cream. Took almost 3 weeks to clear up.

Took hubby to the Dr to make sure his eyes were cleared up. Kid had a check up too. Her heart rate has been over 100 (from 140 to 200+) most days this week and she was really dragging. Just worn out. Doc gave her a B12 shot to help with her energy, didn't work. She slept the rest of the day...... There's a new pediatric cardiology group opening an office next week or so so our Doc wants to give them a shot before sending us to the Mayo clinic.

@Weedygarden with shelling of the broad beans you have to double shell them but unfortunately it is almost impossible to wear disposable gloves while peeling them as you don't have enough feeling in your hands to do it. I do wear thick leather gloves for most outdoor activities though which helps. I may try peeling them with disposable gloves on though but can only use the nitrite ones and not the rubber ones as they irritate my skin.

My Thai pepper plant is still blooming and producing. Nights are getting cold though so I went ahead and harvested every pepper on it whether red or still green. Thai peppers were tiny on this plant so there wasn't even a hand full. Got them in the dehydrator now.

Been watching college football today.

Terri, maybe the Mayo clinic would be the better choice. Don't they let you decide?
I think that's scary that her heart rate goes that high for no apparent or visible reason. Prayers for your girl.

Thanks. We are going to make the appointment with the Mayo clinic but go ahead and see the new Docs if they can get her in sooner.

Went to soup and chili dinner today.
Been knitting a scarf for somebodies Christmas gift.
Will be making arrangements for my horses, tack, quilt frame, supplies, personnel effects to be sent home to Missouri.
Not much reason to go back to Tnn. now.
Fellow and I have parted ways for good.
Oh, well we had a good run 5 years.
Been friends and fellow soldiers together off and on for twenty years.
Crap happens.
Hope everybody gets healthy.

Hey everybody… The surgery went well. Despite the fact I’d only had 10hrs sleep in the 72hrs leading up to the surgery I made everyone laugh in the OR. The attending, the surgeon and the anesthesiologist all came by for a chat in pre-op. After they rolled me in to the OR they started positioning everything. Just before they gave me the happy juice my surgeon asked “Before we proceed do you have any more questions?”

Me: “Just one” “Is this the first time you’ve done this?” Everyone died laughing…

Surgery went well, recovery was short. I was ready to go 20 minutes before they let me leave.

I checked in over at the clinic, my right eye vision was 20/30.

That evening I went to dinner with 2 people I’ve known through a support group 4 years but had never met. I’d never had authentic Lebanese food either. The lamb Kabob’s were yummy! I crashed about 9pm and didn’t move a muscle until just before 7am.

My eye was okay that night and the next morning, just the expected discomfort… nothing to write home about, I wore the plastic shield per instructions and took my drops as directed. I even stopped for breakfast on the way out of the city this morning.

I got about 30 miles out of the Big City when my eye began to really hurt. It was another 20 miles to a rest area off the interstate. By then the pain was a 3, spiking a 4.

I took another round of eye drops which helped some. As I would be passing within a mile of the VA in the big Town on the way home anyway….

I had no wait time, within 2 minutes their eye surgeon was giving me an exam… Pressure normal, no leakage, Problem – a bright sunny day was irritating the crap out of my eye. Oh, the even better news, they said my vision in my right eye was now 20/20.

They gave me a round of drops different than mine and a pair of the super stylish sunglasses the VA is famous for. I was good to go, even stopped at Publix for groceries, still got home by noon.

Dad had gotten groceries this morning also and got he and mom a bucket of KFC. I grabbed a drumstick and a slice of bread. I slept to about 4pm when the VA called to setup my follow up appointment next week. Tonight about 7pm one the nurses from recovery called to check on me… I recognized her voice and had her laughing about the super stylish sunglasses they gave me in the big town… She put the whole story in the follow-up notes.

As I sit here tonight I can see that the tiny fuzzy white blob in the bottom right hand corner of my computer display is actually the time &date. I can actually read the time and date from 3 ft away without glasses.

One eye down, one to go! :lil guy:

Congratulations. :great:
