just so everybody is aware, somehow the day I had to make a supply run, landed on a holiday, and I only clued in once I was there. Too many people, and a bunch didn't seem very happy ???

Was at the hospital for most of the day, back home and did some cleaning and laundry. Am making dinner to put in the hot pot to bring (fettucinni alfredo with chicken) for little granddaughter to have and we'll have dinner with husband. Could not stand another night of takeout.
I take it little MS Amish is in the hospital? I hope it's nothing serious and I wish a full and speedy recovery.

Strange happenings today… but first, went plant hunting with friends, harvested a lot of yellowroot. Spent couple hrs in a creek on a warm day, always a good thing.

Then… we get to my cousin’s farm and turned down a logging road to harvest more passion flower. 50Ft from the paved road we find a man and woman around 40yrs old, strangers, I’d never seen them before. Seemed a little skinny...

A timber company bulldozer was sitting there. These people had built a small fire on the torn up ground by the dozer, looked like a safe spot except we’ve been without rain for 30days. The woods are bad dry.

The couple were cooking something on a piece of metal. They were polite, said they were making lunch. We drove on into the woods, harvested our plants and drove back out. They were leaving as we came back by. My friends knew them, they got caught stealing from a family member a week or two ago just down the road.

I called my cousin as soon as I got home, she’s a retired state trooper. I offered to go with her and check out the situation, she let me know that wasn’t necessary. She’s the only person I know who goes around more heavily armed than me!

Anyway, she saw the guy walked further up the road, woman wasn’t in sight. She stopped and “talked” to him. The guy said he was going to do some weed eating for another neighbor. The story he gave I know now was mostly lies. Well, I called that other neighbor, he knew who they were. Yesterday he gave them some yard work. Today 6lbs of pulled pork was missing from the fridge on his back porch.

The worst part… it’s a holiday, 3 of us called the sheriff’s dept. Get the recording… if an emergency dial 911. Small county, no one is in the office on a holiday. But tomorrow they’ll be hearing from a lot of folks… we got meth addicts living in the woods! Not for long... :waiting:

Been researching sheds and planning to make my own litterbox sifter that doesn't cost $50. Think I can do it with 2 small wastebins. Or a gold sifting pan and a bucket.

It's so much easier to pour litter out and have it sifted than to dig through with a scoop (especially since my wrist starts to hurt and then not cooperate). I cleaned litterboxes again. Trying to keep on top of it. The Arm & Hammer Slide litter doesn't stick to stuff as much.

Tried in vain to get matts of fur out of Rupert (the toothless cat). He kept getting upset when I pulled too much. Trying to find a better way. He'd been hiding outside for a few days and came back in with his fur matted.

Went over to try to help my friend change the serpentine belt on our CRV. He replaced some stuff and got the AC working but the serpentine belt was being a bear. We got the belt recommended by Rockauto and O'Reilly's but it was about 1/2" too short. After hours of trying, even getting new tools, a cheater bar, and me holding on with all my might to push the pulley wheel out by pulling on the bar, we finally threw in the towel and friend examined the old serpentine belt. No signs of cracks, bubbles or any damage. So he put it back on and it went on fairly easily while I pulled the bar.

Went to Walmart after for groceries and supplies. Got him some powerade and a measured water bottle so he can make sure he stays hydrated enough by drinking all of it in one day. got his wife a pretty notebook-- gold edge pages with a gold moon embossed on the front. I didn't go back with him when he went but she apparently loved it. She'd been trying to potty train the 4-yr-old. His mom is looking at possibly 20yrs in prison unless she gets a good plea deal. Not looking good for her-- cops confiscated her phone a couple days ago. They'll get to see her nudes that she sent to guys she cheated on my friend with. CPS declared that the 4-yr-old is nonverbal and thus is special needs. Friend's wife is learning sign language to teach him and he's picking it up fairly well. He's fond of the sign for fish. Friend should be able to get social security disability for him to help with childcare since the kid's mother can't take him or pay child support.

WONDERFUL last weekend of the state fair...
The total numbers are not available yet, but so far at least 5 attendance records have been broken during the 12 days.. Other important details of the fair will be available later.. Useful info like they sell chocolate chip cookies by the plastic bucket full.. Selling around 6 million plus cookies.. As much as I like the state fair, the last weekend is kind of sad.. There isn't a blade of grass left as it has all been walked off. The staff at the stands are all hang dog tired.. But it will all recover by next year..

Earlier last week we had high winds and a thunder storm.. There was a small tornado on the ground about 2-3 miles up river from us that did a lot of tree damage, but little property damage and no injuries.. School starts tomorrow morning with nice weather predicted for the week..

Tragically.. A man with multiple previous DWI convictions ran an SUV at high speed through a crowd at an outdoor seating patio at a local bar, restaurant where a group from a local health care facility were gathered for a members going away party.. Tragically 1 guest and 1 server were killed and at least 4 critically injured.. One of the injured being the person the party was for..

All keep safe..

Vibrant Life Sifting Cat Litter Box, 2 Open Top Plastic Cat Litter Pans and Cat Litter Tray, Large, Black - Vibrant Life Sifting Litter Pan makes it easy to keep your cat's personal area clean and eliminates the need to scoop. This sifting pan system includes two durable plastic open pans from 100% post-industrial recycled material, and one sifting tray. The reinforced bottom of the open pans maintains strength, and the rolled edges make it easy to pick up. To use: Place the sifting tray between pans. Fill stacked pans with litter. To clean, pour contents of the dirty pan into the empty pan with sifting tray on top. Simply lift the sifting tray and shake. Litter will fall through, allowing you to dispose of cat waste easily. Reassemble pans and sifter tray after disposal and add additional clean litter if needed. :lightbulb:

So glad all our cats are outdoor so no need for the dreaded litter boxes. The farm is their litter box.
Little granddaughter will need to get up in ten minutes and get ready for school. Not an easy thing to do when you're 13 yrs old and have had three days off. We'll see how many times I have to yell. Ha.
Farm chores need to be done this morning, then shower up and head to the hospital. Hoping his docs are in today and they come up with a plan. He overheard the shift changing of the nurses last night, I did, too. Where the nurse goes over his whole file in the hallway to the nurse going on duty, kinda passing the torch kind of thing. They do the whole med history pretty much. Husband got real quiet and then said he was a mess for sure. Felt bad for him. Hopefully there's some positives today.

back from the trip, it was good but way too short , but we needed to come home and do stuff and daughter has to go back to work today anyway
only problem we had was yesterday on the way home it was pouring rain in Virginia beach and I couldn't see well on the interstate because the crappy little rental car was too low to the ground and water splashing up from trucks. I forgot how bad it is to drive a car....
Anyway, I failed to get into the correct lane and ended up on 64 instead of 264 heading towards the very long bridge tunnel to Hampton I was always very much trying to avoid, plus it goes not where we needed to go. I was freaking out for a few miles since there was no exit, but thankfully there was an exit before it and we turned around.

Granddaughter is so cute!! I will post a photo when I get them downloaded. No time today , probably not in a while. We have a huge to do list, don't even know where to start

Amish: hope your husband gets better and out of the hospital soon!

Hope everyone else had a nice holiday weekend

I have a 6 month appt. at my reg doc this morning. I will walk (without pup) and stop at doc's on the way.
Then, call friend to see about breakfast or lunch.
Once home, will pull out Christmas cards to get a head start on them. Probably won't do many this year.

well last night i was craving what i call stinky man food....chopped up entire large head of garlic..sauteed it and put on rice and then added the chub mackerel...fishy and rice...well i should say fish and instead of sticky rice...stinky rice....lol....anyway today i am safe from vampires....you know the bear bomb pepper sprays...i am a walking vampire spray bomb.....toot toot....lol...i might have to apologize to anyone getting close to me today....like they say at garlic and ramp festivals....eat,drink and stink !

elk the vamp killer!

Watched the sun come up this morning. It looked like a big red ball in the sky. It's been really smokey the last few days. Yesterday and last night we had a lot of wind, looked like it was going to blow in a storm, nothing.
Just have a few ridge pieces to put on the coop roof and I'll be done with that. Just waiting on the wire mesh to come in to finish up the coop, then we can paint it. Next I'll start on the run. The ground is hard like concrete, but I only have about 12 holes to dig.
The Starlink equipment is supposed to come in this week too. I'm looking forward to getting that set up.

More prayers on the way Amish. It is depressing to hear all that and know its you they are discussing.
Got an appointment for a 2nd opinion for next Tuesday with a heart specialist. Trying to get all my records transferred over. Down side We've got to drive over to Nashville for it. Thatll be a long day
A second opinion is always worth it!! Hopefully it's a good long day!!

Was sitting wondering what I wanted for breakfast ... nothing sounded good. After a couple hours, decided to make scrambled eggs with red and green bell pepper, onion, hash browns, sausage. Seemed to take forever ... had to brown the frozen hash browns, chop the sausage, chop the onion, chop the bell peppers ...

Turned out really good!

Cooler weather and a day off yesterday meant I actually got some stuff done around here. Trimmed back all the branches hanging over the roof and made a giant brush pile for later burning. The Amish roofing crew was here bright and early this morning and the racket is driving my dog nuts but I'm glad it's finally getting done. I took the whole week off hoping to work on my greenhouses, and it's a good thing, I'd have trouble concentrating on work with all the crashing and banging going on. Today I've washed and hung out four loads of laundry, paid bills, done the bank-post office-harbor freight-fill the gas tank run to town, and ordered some things online. Greenhouses after lunch, I hope!
Good points for the Amish - there's no cussing, loud radios, or smoking as is common with most contractors I've encountered. One contractor that looked at the job used the f-word and took the Lord's name in vain so many times in the 20 minutes he was here I asked him to leave. That was just so unprofessional and uncouth that I couldn't have him around. Why do people have to cuss so much? To me it seems to show a lack of intelligence or ability to have a simple conversation.
I find myself pondering a couple of things. Is the fact the Amish man was the only contractor to answer my questions and return a quote a result of my being a widow on my own without a man here for them to answer to, or is it because the contractors today are just careless and uncaring and lack follow-through? It's a smallish ranch house with just one cricket at the chimney, not a complicated job. Why couldn't they at least say 'sorry, too busy', or 'I don't want the job', instead of just ghosting me? Every one of them promised to get back to me with a quote and timeline, and only the Amish guy followed through.
Secondly, is there a term for the level of adulting achieved when one takes a vacation from work, only to spend the time doing laundry, running errands, doing chores, and cutting the grass?

Went to sleep late and got out of bed early. 🫥

Called the firm, took an assignment, went into protection mode, located the the bad guy, bad guy turned out be thoroughly broken, chose not to kick a man when he's down, begrudgingly went into helper mode, got him out of a crappy situation and set him free to either pull it together or go back to being a bad guy. Yuck.

Got Charlene, my car, and drove her home. Found out my first girlfriend, also named Charlene, died like a year after I enlisted. Had no idea. Forgot to pick up something for dinner. It's been a weird day. Looking forward to going to sleep.

Good on you for making the effort to help the guy out. Hopefully he'll take the step to move forward with his life

@Heartbroken I am in that club with you, sister. The one where you take time off work to stay home and putter around the house and get things done that you don't feel like getting to the rest of the time? Yep, I'm on vakay for a few days too.
Today I took my car to get the oil changed and an annual state inspection. Ordinarily my late husband would have changed the oil himself. I ain't doin' it. When it came time to pay the guy told me how much. I said are you sure? It seemed like it was less than it used to be. No matter. Those guys treat me good every time, they're just a bunch of young guys.
@d_marsh you have a heart. Sorry about your old flame.
