Well.... that enameled cast iron cleaned-up nicely. I'll hang on to it. There's gotta be a good use for it - maybe as a parts cleaner.

Dishes are done and it raised the humidity in my house by a couple percentage points. Silver lining. ;)

I've recovered from the physical damage, but the emotional impact lingers on. lol
Look for my next cooking episode to be posted in a thread titled: Old School's Cooking Fiascos.

Feeding tube is in place and will be operational this evening! Came through surgery beautifully. Nasal tube is gone and he looks like his old self. He’ll be fighting fit before we know it.
He'll feel better, more normal without the nasal tube! Big step forward!! 😃

Trip to the big town for groceries and a haircut. Picked up popeye's chicken for dinner. Knew I'd be too tired to cook anything.

I find it far easier to cook with gas than an electric cook top. In fact I’ll never buy electric again. Open flame and cast iron are a match made in heaven. I use a lodge #8 camp oven to fry in. It’s real easy to hold a constant temp but a little tricky to center it over a flame because of the feet.

But I fry wings, catfish, tots, homemade fries… anything that says fry on the box from the store. I bake a lot of chicken thighs, cheap and moist, always skin on. After baking I’ll toss them in the #8 to crisp up the skin, yummy!

I fry at least 3 nights a week. A #8 isn’t big enough for a whole catfish fillet so I cut it into 4 or 5 pieces, bread then fryem’ up! I like my batter anyway. I usually fry 2 fillets, one for dinner, the other for a catfish Po’boy the next day. So easy to fry with an IF thermometer...

I've a friend who bakes bread in a #8, Even makes her cornbread in it. I'm not much of a baker, just trying to learn now.

(i think a lodge #8 is also called a 2 quart camp oven)

Awake at 0430, coffee while staring at the moon...until my feet got cold. On yoga mat by 0510. Next shower and take kids to school, have early appt this morning and then my favorite... homework. 🙄

I was on a yoga mat this morning as well; at 5:30 and again at 7:30. It's my ground mat for when I'm under a school bus chaining up. I discovered they make great toboggans when there is a slight down slope on straight ice. I could barely stand up with ice grippers on.

I was out for five hours this morning and didn't make it to a single kid. All the chaining and unchaining was just to get the h3!! out of there. The mechanic gave me a donut when I finally got back to the shop.

Puttered in the garden this morning and cleaned out the asparagus/strawberry bed, then dug a small trench and added some steer-gro, then covered with mulch. Keep hoping for a good asparagus harvest, but it's always been a struggle. Either too deep or too shallow or I've moved them......trying to find just the right spot for them to stay put. So far they've been in this bed 3 years and I see one breaking surface. Keeping my fingers crossed for many more.

My Irishman has decided.
With no protest from me for a change.
That he needs his own vehicle.
That way if he wants to go for a drive across town?
He can just hop in his vehicle and go.
While he has been deciding things.
He has decided he needs his own place too.
That way my apartment won't be too small all the time.
He can only stay at my place for so many days a month due to the lease.
Normally when he's in town, he just crashes at some else's house.
But everybody is getting a little tired of that.
I think everybody thinks it's time for him to put down roots somewhere.
It's been 10 years of nomad life for these guys.
Kinda like Spikedriver's life.
Their company is opening an office in Kansas City, Missouri.
All 6 of these men have applied for the job.
This way the other men, women and their families will have more time together.
We shall see how it goes.
We find out next week if the 6 men got the job and will be home every night.
It will be an adjustment for everyone involved.

Just got home from our shopping trip. Ended up with about $400 worth of groceries. There were only a few coals left in the wood stove but the house was still at 70 degs inside. It was a long day and it's good to be home.
Been having a lot of back pain lately so I have an appointment tomorrow with a massage girl. Then I'm going up to pick up some plywood before it all goes to California or N Carolina.

@RJ2019 Going to toss you out an option. My wife (a vet) gets the dogs collars with their name and a phone number stitched in the collar.
Can lose a tag, can lose a collar. But it gives you a clue.
If you can’t find cheaper try Orvis.
And @RJ2019 we ordered the pup’s collar online for the same reasons mentioned. We never put the dog’s name on the collar. Our last dog was very smart, people would steal him. This dog they probably wouldn’t want to keep 😂. We train them with hand signals as well as voice and don’t want strangers to be able to call our dog (he needs to listen to us). Again current k9 is a bit more of a challenge 🥴. Anyhoo so just phone numbers on the collar, names don’t matter.

When I lived in the north bush, one school bus stayed in the bush with chains on.. It ran parts of 3 or more routes that met at a central point to exchange kids with other busses depending on the school the bus was assigned..
