After 3 or 4 tries over the last year or so I've still not had an egg hatch. I'm thinking it might be time to try another incubator since I can't keep the humidity up on this 1,or my hygrometers aren't working right. I'm going to get a couple different ones and see if that helps but I think it's mainly been too much variance in the temperature and maybe leaving the incubator in the styrofoam case will help,we'll see.

The Brinsea incubators are excellent. I had the mini and it was awesome, the only thing I had to do was add water to the reservoir every few days and it did everything else. It turns the eggs, goes through a cool down daily cycle if you want it to (to mimic the hen taking her daily break), automatic lock down (egg turning stops), and it is fully programmable for different egg/species type.

They aren't cheap but you may be able to get a better price on a pre-owned model from ebay.

If the incubator can't hold a steady temp the consequences can be worse than just not having any eggs hatch, it can also produce chicks with fatal birth defects or crippled legs.

So today I am committed to vacuuming baseboards, mopping floors, washing bedding etc... for the great flea eradication effort. I am not big on house cleaning in general, so this will also be part of spring cleaning.

I sprayed the corners/baseboards with pyrethrin before mopping, think I will dust behind the baseboards with DE once they dry, then go over them again and wipe down the walls (6 dogs in a small house means everything needs to be washable including the walls, floors, etc...).

Up and have the laundry on the run already this morning and swept the house too! Made buckeye bars for DH and some for potluck Sunday School Class dinner this evening. Next, making meatloaf and real mashed potatoes for dh for dinner. Then thawing hamburger to can taco meat tomorrow.

Pulmonologist says DH needs an event monitor for his heart, since his heart rate goes way down when he stands and walks. I'd never heard of this but am glad the doc was on the ball. Why couldn't they mention that he needed something for this at the clinic yesterday where they had to stand and hold him up yesterday?

The only Brinsea I could possibly afford before next years tax check is the Mini II Eco model but I don't like the idea of not being able to adjust the temperature,if I'm reading it right though. http://www.brinsea.com/p-570-mini-ii-eco-manual-10-egg-incubator.aspx . "Easy tamper proof adjustment" makes it sound like you can't adjust it.

Well it says "adjustment" so I think you can, though if it doesn't come with an automatic turner feature I think it is too pricey.

Can't vouch for this one but it is in your price range, you could probably look up reviews on it (personally I would make sure to research reviews before buying one, too risky otherwise): https://www.ebay.com/itm/SIL-RITE-F...132203261051?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c10

(though this probably deserves its own thread in the chicken's section)

Thanks for the link,I was just looking at styrofoam ones because that's what dad always used and had great luck with but they're not much cheaper than this one,if I can't get anywhere with the one I'm using now I might just give that one a try.

Mrs. squirrelhunter had an appointment today over in Bluffton and the test they did on her showed there wasn't any tumors on her brain and even the small 1 she's had since she was 3 that was making her epileptic is even gone,so she's as happy as a pig in a slop bucket. On the way home we stopped off at the Amish guy I got my geese from last year to see if they're sitting yet so I can get a couple more since our 1 goose came up missing. He said they've been sitting for awhile and should be hatching in the next couple weeks,so after I get paid on the 3rd I'll go back and see if they've hatched yet. :woo hoo:

I woke up a 5am and couldn’t go back to sleep, always the precursor to a crappy day. I got some laundry and light housekeeping done. Went to town for a few groceries and chicken feed this afternoon.

We’re supposed have a couple days this week with temps in the 80’s. I thought I’d fire up my little Smokey Joe grill with the charcoal I make. I haven’t had a really good hotdog in a long time. I like the Hebrew National kosher hotdogs. I bought a couple packs to cook on my little grill. I’ll smoke them with a few chips of pecan wood. Talk about a good hotdog! ;)

I’ll toss them in the freezer afterwards, anytime I want a dog I’ll thaw one out.

Moments ago, I realized I forgot to get hotdog buns... :( I guess I’ll be freezing all of them.

The part where you said "even the small 1 she's had since she was 3 that was making her epileptic is even gone..." THAT IS WOW NEWS!!!
:lil guy::huggs::green man::flower::flower::flower:

so now she can be off of medication for that? Or whatever. That's wonderful news!
:phonecall: call everybody and have a barbecue. Was she legal to drive when she had the tumor? Congratulations to Mrs. Squirrelhunter. Give her a big hug!

Actually she hadn't been taking ANY medication since 2,000. Back then they told her she had 5 tumors and gave her 6 months to live,so she said to heck with it,threw all her meds in the toilet. 6 months later she went back for her 6 month check up,they did another MRI and all but the little 1 were gone. 18 years later she's still here. I think her meds gave her the tumors. No she wasn't suppose to be driving but nobody ever told her not to so she did. She didn't know she wasn't suppose to until a few months ago when she went in to get checked for tumers again, which is the first time since 2,000.

Hello everyone and hope you have had a great day :).

Yesterday and today we finished our 2 monthly grocery shop. Today managed to get clearance oranges at a $2 discount per 3kg bag of Valencia oranges, apples on special for $1.99kg instead of $3.50kg, and 10 tins of long life tinned vegetables and meat at 50% off sale saving $20. Got home dated and put all of the groceries away and then headed out into the gardens and transplanted some native lilies and canna lilies into a new garden bed. We are propagating and separating them so we can take some to our new property when we move.

Tonight we made 5 bags of apple pie filling for the freezer out of the apples and still have some more to eat and make juices from for the week.

we went to another yard sale saturday and i got some candles and some of those battery powered tea lights for 2 dollars. it was actually a shoe box full of candles. then on monday a friend was cleaning someones house and she gave him 2 cases of wide mouth pint jars, so he brought them to me since he doesn't can. anyway we have a deal ,when he brings something like this i fix him pepper sauce and plates of food since his wife left him . he is our nurse/navy buddy. but since i am retiring i probably want get to see him as much . i still have to go to town to check on my parents, so i can still take him some plates. i'll just freeze them. plus he knows where we live and hubby goes that way every day. i have 35 days to go or 24 working days.:woo hoo::woo hoo::woo hoo:

Safe travels!

Stopped at the Aquarium Shop on my way home from work today. Bought 15 gal replacement saltwater so to do a water change for my saltwater aquarium. I'm wondering if the saltwater that i'm taking out of the tank would be good for the garden... it has a lot of bacteria stuff and waste that might be beneficial...

Salt water can kill your plants.

I've re-thought using the used saltwater.
It's going on some weeds, far, far away from the garden.
Thanks again! ;)

Had to play HR lady and train a new teacher...rules and regulations, employee stuff. Made for a long 5 hrs. Glad that's done. I can't wait till the baby ducks become waterproof. They are still in cages and not in the main run. Those cages are the stinkiest things on earth that have to be cleaned every day. They are 4 and a half weeks old. I'm reading that they are waterproof between 7 and 9 weeks old. It can't come soon enough!

I am celebrating the resurrection of my 243 Sako rifle. Long story short. Took rifle to local gunsmith and he returned it as needing parts he could not locate. Neighbor who makes and sells homemade jerky stops by to deliver my jerky order. We get to chatting and neighbor (who's day job is with a gun manufacture) takes rifle to work and a master gun smith makes repair and returns rifle back to life. This rifle was first built in 1957 and was the 366 rifle made in that series (L 57). Now I will head back to range to re-zero scope. I am now a very happy camper.

Shaved my moustache today, first time in 40 years I have been without some form of facial hair. My grown sons and grandchildren have never seen me clean shaven. I grew my first ‘stash at 14 (if a 14 year olds facial hair can be called that), I shaved it off for basic training. In our first year of marriage my wife said she wondered what I looked like without it. She immediately asked me to grow it back.

‘Stash, beard, goatee always something. It will take me a while to decide if I will keep it off or grow it back

I grew my first beard when I was 30. I'm blond but my beard was mostly grey. The first time a woman in her 40's held a door open for me I shaved it off!

It didn't take me but a couple of weeks to decide... :D

Yesterday, they put DH on an EKG and said his heart is fine, it's his lungs. But they said it was his heart on Monday. And lungs are what we have said all along so hopefully, in the near future, we will get somewhere.

Today, I am cleaning out the goat shed and hauling the old poop and hay up to the rose and blueberry garden. Will be happy if I can get that accomplished today!
